Hi Aderika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Aderika Tillery, and I am a licensed nail technician. I founded Act Beauty Bar with the vision of creating a one-stop shop for all your beauty needs. At my Beauty Bar, we offer services in nails, hair, and esthetics, providing a complete beauty experience. Unlike the common practice of individual suites where clients aren’t sure which service providers are in each room, Act Beauty Bar is designed to give you a clear sense of everything we offer as soon as you walk in.

As a mother of two young girls, I also wanted to create something that would build generational wealth for them—a legacy they can inherit. My goal is to set my daughters up for success and financial stability before they even turn 18.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I opened my Beauty Bar in 2024, around Thanksgiving, and everything has been going great so far! If I had to mention one challenge, it would probably be finding the right people to work in the shop. It’s not just about filling positions—it’s about finding team members who bring the same welcoming, positive energy that I strive to create in the shop. I want my salon to feel like one big happy family. When clients walk in, I want them to feel right at home, surrounded by warmth and good vibes!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed nail technician specializing in Gel-X, which is a revolutionary gel nail extension system. Gel-X uses a soft gel tip that is applied over your natural nails, providing a durable, long-lasting manicure that’s lightweight and flexible. Unlike traditional acrylic nails, Gel-X extensions are gentler on the natural nail, offering a more comfortable and healthier option for clients looking for beautiful, extended nails. I can create any length and almost any design that my clients bring to me, ensuring a personalized and unique look for every individual. I think the most positive thing I can say about my nail business is that, aside from the amazing nails I create, I truly enjoy what I do. Some people wake up dreading work, but I’m excited to get up every day, serve my clients, and help them feel good about themselves. I love the vibe I bring to the shop, because, as I always tell people, even if you’re not the best at what you do, clients will always return if they enjoy your personality. In the beauty industry personality is everything.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality for my success is attention to detail. In the nail industry, precision is key, whether it’s perfecting a design or ensuring the longevity and health of the nails. I always take the time to listen to my clients’ needs and make sure they’re satisfied with every aspect of their service. Building strong relationships and creating a comfortable, welcoming environment also play a huge role in my success, as clients want to feel good both inside and out when they leave my chair.
