Conversations with Anna Jordan and McAllister Stowe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Jordan and McAllister Stowe .

Hi Anna Jordan and McAllister Stowe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We (Anna and McAllister) became friends during our first year of college when we were in the same business class at UNC. As soon as we joined the same sorority sophomore year (Phi Mu), we became best friends! We loved eating meals at the Phi Mu house together and trying new restaurants on Franklin Street. Anna had a private food Instagram at the time that she only shared with her close friends. We started brainstorming an idea for a public food Instagram to share all of our foodie adventures with the world. While sipping iced lattes at The Coffee Mill in Lewisville over winter break our sophomore year, Anna and McAllister created the food instagram sweetnsalty.sisters. Between the two of us, we have tried numerous restaurants in RTP and beyond through our travels. The rest is history! The support and excitement in the foodie community have been truly unmatched.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At first, it wasn’t easy to consistently post and share quality posts that people would want to interact with. Also, with Instagram’s ever-changing algorithm, we always have to stay up-to-date on the latest trends.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We have mainly focused on highlighting local restaurants and spots in the Chapel Hill area (where we went to college) and Winston-Salem (where we are from). We are most proud of our teamwork and how we have worked together to build our account. We are both very supportive of one another’s posts and creative ideas. When one of us is super busy, the other person will post more and take on more of the responsibilities of the account and vice versa. We think that having two people running our food account sets us apart because we can offer double the content and places. Also, with us both having graduated college a few weeks ago, we are getting ready to move and be in two different states and will continue our account. Anna is moving to Raleigh and will continue to highlight great eats in the Triangle, while McAllister is moving to Atlanta and will explore restaurants in the Peach State! We are excited about this new direction for our account and to show our followers more East Coast eats.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
Anna – likes the app Lightroom for editing photos, and occasionally listens to the small business growth podcasts to learn new Instagram strategies

McAllister – likes using VSCO presets to edit her food pics, likes to watch Youtube influencers to see what’s trending on social media.
