Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly June.
Hi Holly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Holly J, Craft & DIY Blogger Party Planner, and connoisseur of all things pink and sparkly! By day I am actually Dr. Holly J., a College Success Instructor at Durham Technical Community College. I have worked in the field of education since graduating college. In 2009, I began a kid’s party company called Posh Party Palace, where I host princess parties, spa parties, and more. It is as magical and posh as it sounds, but I realized because the parties were for kids, it didn’t allow me a full creative outlet to connect with people my age, so from there, Posh, Glam, and Pristine was born.
When I first started Posh, Glam, and Pristine, I envisioned a lifestyle blog, but what I realized in my first year of blogging I was posting and sharing more crafts and DIY’s and from there, the blog transitioned to be a full-on crafting blog.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Is there such thing as a smooth road- I would love to know more about that! I have been extremely fortunate on my journey to become a craft blogger, but I have spent lots of nights doing research and trying to better myself and my blog. One of the biggest challenges is learning to secure funding and understanding how to make your blog profitable.
To gain a better understanding of blogging as a business, I completed small business courses at the community college, and I networked with bloggers already present in the field. I also utilized Skillshare to learn skills such as photography and how to edit videos (all of this was new to me since I went to school for education). Another challenge for me is that while my social media presence may reflect the opposite, I am a strong introvert. Building a blog audience requires you to showcase yourself, network, and sometimes put yourself out there and be told no. To combat this, I have DIYed shirts, hats, and crafts that I share with coworkers and family to allow those items to speak for my brand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main craft and DIY ideas utilize cardstock paper, and there are lots of tutorials on using Cricut electronic cutting machines. My crafts are beginner-friendly and often budget-friendly as well! My desire is that when you leave my blog, you’re ready to “Make Something Fabulous”! One of the things that I am so proud of is the best friend-sisterhood atmosphere I have been able to find in the crafting community. I have had the opportunity to connect with some of my favorite bloggers through online workshops like This is Tisa, and I had the opportunity to connect with Amber from Damask Love in person in Miami (pre-pandemic, of course). Another thing I am extremely proud of is our recent logo refresh. When Posh, Glam, and Pristine first began, the logo represented what I thought I would be blogging about, but a few months ago, I was able to work with a great artist to keep a little of the old and mix it with the new.
In thinking about what else I’m proud of, it’s the future of Posh, Glam, and Pristine (PGP)! I’m only 5’2 but my visions for PGP go well above my height! In growing the blog, later this year I plan to begin hosting online and in-person #HowHolly crafting and DIY workshops. I am also working on PGP Studio by Holly, which will house the blog’s online shop for handmade and customized gifts and stationery.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Amber Kemp-Gerstel from Damask Love, Tisa from This is Tisa and of course my close family and friends that include my college roomie and college classmate. They have cheered me on and provided a great source of inspiration and they have even helped me host events for Posh Party Palace and I’m sure they will be there for #HowHollyWorkshops
