Conversations with Jazzy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzy.

Hi Jazzy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After starting my first post-grad job in 2017, I quickly realized that I’d need to learn how to manage my money effectively. I started by reading David Bach’s book, “Smart Women Finish Rich.” After that, I was hooked on all things personal finance! I read a ton of blogs and books related to money management and paying off debt. Sadly I noticed a trend among the creators of that content – they were predominantly older white males or married couples. It was hard for me to relate as a single, Black woman, and I knew I couldn’t be alone. So, I started a personal finance blog called First Hustle Then Brunch to help teach others how to manage their money and build multiple streams of income. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve helped thousands of people all over the world take control of their finances and start profitable side hustles. In addition to my blog, I create and sell digital products related to budgeting and side hustles and share money-related content on Instagram and TikTok.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing worth having comes easy. It definitely requires sacrifice and commitment, especially when you also work full time and have other responsibilities and interests. I have often skipped going out with friends to finish a product or blog post. When I first started, I had no idea what I was doing! I’ve taken many courses to learn new skills such as search engine optimization, email marketing, web design, and lots more. When you’re a solopreneur, all of the work falls on you. However, I love learning new things, so it’s been a lot of fun for me. I also make time to celebrate all of my wins – big and small.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a personal finance educator focused on helping people take control of their finances and build wealth. It starts with cultivating a positive money mindset. That’s one of the things that sets me apart from others in the personal finance space. I believe that you can build wealth and pay off debt while still enjoying your life. No money guilt over here! I’m so honored to have helped thousands of men and women through my online content and coaching program. I’ve even been quoted in some incredible publications such as Forbes, Yahoo Finance, and GoBankingRates!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
First Hustle Then Brunch is not my first blog. In 2015, I had spinal fusion surgery to correct two significant curvatures in my spine. I started a blog and YouTube channel to document my journey through recovery. It reached thousands of people all over the world, which is insane! I also ended up meeting a bunch of other girls and women who had gone through the surgery or were considering it and were inspired by my story. I was thrilled to help them feel more comfortable about the procedure since it is a major surgery. I still keep in touch with many of them today.
