Conversations with Jessica Bassett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Bassett.

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a hairstylist for 11 years. I have always enjoyed working behind the chair, but as I got further into my career, I developed a love for wedding hair and makeup as well. Starting with more of a Halloween type makeup, I transverse my skills into doing beauty makeup. Wedding hair for me is like sculpting and what better way to make someone feel at their most beautiful and most fabulous other than creating an entire wedding look. So naturally, I began to discover new techniques and learn about new styles to be on my way. Eventually, it just made sense to begin with my own business providing onsite wedding services.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is always winding. Sometimes smooth sometimes bumpy. When your in a business that serves others, you can love a look and feeling while it doesn’t invoke the same feeling as someone else. Communication is one of the most important aspects to learn, one that many learn the hard way. There is also the big decisions of if we have a space for an in house type situation or just purely keep things on site. Plus advertising and if or how I can be beneficial. I would say making budget conscious decisions was another struggle.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Lovestruck Beauty, we are a collective of artists that provide on site hair and makeup services. We as a team bring a variety of skills to the table. We have several stylists each with their own flair as well as a barber. I think we pride ourselves on bringing a level of calm and security that the wedding day with go smoothly. One of the things that set up apart is that we offer on site day of barber services. Clean ups, quick trims and beard line ups to help the wedding party feel fresh and look fantastic. Overall we are a well-rounded group that specializes in making the big day just feel magical.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Right now, I see a big shift in sustainability in the industry. Which is fantastic. Mindfulness of products and their ingredients is such a great shift. It’s something that really needed to happen. There is also a lot more capability to utilize electronic contracts and anything recycle-able. Trends come and go, boho has been big for several years and I see more romantic vibes in hair and makeup happening every year.
