Today we’d like to introduce you to Yobany Marquez Ramirez.
Hi Yobany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Yobany Marquez Ramirez. I’m 18 years old. Born and raised in Raleigh North Carolina. When I was in about 7th grade. My dad and I were in a Sams Club and had walked by the electronics section and my dad had thought about buying a camera for here and there. A few weeks later pass by it starts snowing and I take the camera out and start taking close-ups of plants, trees, anything that looks nice with snow basically and eventually brought my brother out to take a picture of him. It’s senior year of high school and I join the school’s yearbook team. I was able to take pictures with my own camera. I would do most of the video and photo stuff in that class. It’s about April/ End of May of 2020 (Right when Covid hit) and started thinking to myself, “I don’t want to buy these expensive photos from the company” So I took my own, and people from my school had seen them and I took pictures for a friend. This is where it all took off. I started taking cap&gown portraits for people from my school, other high schools and eventually made an Instagram. And it is now 2021 one year later, and enjoy doing what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The learning process! Everything I know is all self-taught. From learning how to properly use my camera, its functions, working with clients, and learning new softwares. It was definitely a bumpy road leading up to now, but worth every second. As far as lessons, I’ve learned that no matter how much you doubt yourself keep going and don’t stop! There will be some times where you doubt yourself and ask if you’re good enough, and this goes for anything that anyone does, you got this! Believe in yourself!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been in the business for a full year now, which I recently hit back in May! And I am extremely proud of my progress and how far I’ve come.
What makes you happy?
Music. Hands Down! If anyone were to ask me what made me the most happiest or what keeps me happy, I will always say music. I love every single thing about it, I listen to almost everything. It’s also gotten me through so much.
