Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashleyh Korgar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleyh Korgar.

Hi Ashleyh, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I always had the gift of entertaining others, so I knew it was something I wanted to do. As a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Raleigh, as well as being a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., they instilled community service, giving back, and being a help to others in me.

With this, I always knew I one day wanted to bridge being FOR my community and entertaining media together, in a way that would benefit, not just me, but those around me. By this being my foundation, I’ve managed to climb my way through many obstacles to now being on the radio and creating a few platforms that do exactly what I’ve always desired.

The platforms I’ve created allow me to entertain while spotlighting the gifts of others and speak on those uncomfortable conversations in hopes to uplift and find solutions for everyday problems millennials face.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been an easy road. Many No’s, many silent battles, fears, doubts because of what I thought was a lack of support, many days of playing the comparison game and thinking I’m “behind” when I look at my peers and where they are in their lives, have all made my journey intricate.

BUT developing a stronger spiritual life and learning to let God have his way in how he chooses to use me, now, has me understanding where I am in my journey and why I’ve had to endure some of the challenges he’s brought my way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an On-Air Talent as well as Associate Producer for IHeartMedia’s Raleigh Market Morning Radio Show “Danny Meyers & The G105 Morning Show.” I’m the only woman, not to mention African American on our team so that in itself speaks volumes of my presence. I’m the tough cookie of the bunch.

That’s me and always has been, but I have an old-spirited heart of gold! I love being able to wake up and be the start of someone’s day, especially one who is looking for a good laugh because life isn’t so good at the moment. That’s the person I speak to during their morning drive and I love it! Besides radio, I also am the Social Media Manager of a Christan Ad Agency (M Is Good) here in Raleigh, NC.

Under my personal business and brand (Ashleyh Yemia’ LLC,) I’m known for hosting many different kinds of events and functions. I also have created two platforms in which I Direct & Produce. One of them is International (Coastn’ With Yemia’) which is a TV show series where millennials get together to have real-life topical discussions that air on BOSSS TV Network and are based out of London, UK and Liberia, West Africa.

The other (The Hot Seat with Ashleyh Yemia) is an interview series that spotlights media industry individuals of the NC community and any, who I like to call, “Heavy Hitters” in NC that are doing amazing things people need to know about. I’m proud of both platforms and what they bring to my city.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising thing people are always shocked to find out is that growing up as a child, I wasn’t really able to listen or watch much on TV like most kids. Not even the common things like watching BET or blasting rap on the radio were allowed, but yet still somehow I managed to end up wanting to be in the world of entertainment, and honestly, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

My parents did the best they could to shield me from being exposed to the evils of the world at a young age. They wanted my siblings and I to be children and only worry about children-like things, and I will always appreciate them for that. So when someone asks what my favorite movie is or my favorite artists, my answers of The Sound Of Music and The Temptations are always jaw-dropping, but it keeps people on their feet.

I’m very unpredictable and I love that! Call me the kid that “jumped off the porch late” and I’m ok with that.
