Daily Inspiration: Meet Coy McDade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coy McDade.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a stay-at-home mom since having my almost 5-year-old, Wyatt. Since having 1 more little boy and being 7 months pregnant with another one, I realized I just needed something for myself and to give me back an identity that would allow me to still be at home with my boys. So, in January of 2021, I started sewing!! The first product I made was little drawstring Valentine’s Day treat bags. In March of 2021, I had my last little boy and when he was in the NICU, the pandemic hit. Once he got out, we all started sheltering at home. Soon after I was scrolling and saw a mask sewing pattern and thought to be sure I can make masks for people! I posted about it on Facebook and it took off!! My mom has been sewing and knitting my whole life so I went to her and she gave me a ton of fabrics and I started sewing masks for free and donations! Soon after, I ran out of fabrics and elastics and started adjusting patterns and thinking more about the quality of the masks. I started using high-quality elastic, nose bridges, and 100% designer quality quilting cotton and charging for them and my business took off. I started making garlands, wreaths, baby items, seasonal items, and am now back to making masks again now that the variants are back with vengeance! It has been a blessing to have a little extra income and a newfound passion. I now have a large following of great people on Instagram and have found a love for all things handcrafted, natural, and farmhouse!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started getting materials was a challenge. Because I am using the highest quality cotton, it’s more expensive but well worth it. The supply chain greatly affected my business but I stay transparent and all my customers have understood!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I pride myself on using high-quality items at an affordable price. When you are selling masks, I think it’s important to believe in the efficacy of the product you are providing to people.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Bad luck …. Covid happening has had a lot to do with my business taking off and growing to what it is now.
