Daily Inspiration: Meet Gerald Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerald Brown.

Hi Gerald, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After debating for a few years on whether to open a business, my wife (Keisha) and I made the decision in December 2020 to finally take the plunge. With help from our son and daughter, Tristan and Taylor, Seeker’s Cove was opened on May 15th, 2021. Our kids have been instrumental in crafting the vision for the store, with Taylor coming up with the name “Seeker’s Cove” and designing our logo. So it really has been and is a family affair!

We’ve lived in Wake Forest for five years and wanted to find a way to give back to/enhance our local community. Taking a hard look at the local retail offerings, we decided that a comic-themed novelty store would be a great addition to Wake Forest. Seeker’s Cove has a wide variety of fandom merchandise for fans of all ages of Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC, and much more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Once we landed on a location at The Factory, things progressed rather quickly. We were able to connect with some great local contractors and businesses to get Seeker’s Cove ready, not to mention all the “sweat equity” we put into giving it our own personal touch.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Both my wife and I are retired US Army veterans, with over 21 years of service each. My wife continues to serve veterans as a Physician Assistant in Durham, NC, while I serve as a Program Manager for a pharmaceutical technology company.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The warmth and diversity that Wake Forest offers, with close proximity to Raleigh/Durham.
