Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariquita Reese.
Hi Mariquita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We go into great detail in our first episode of Post Film Clarity!
We were already mutual friends for a few months before Lindsey texted me out of the blue to see Past Lives at the Raleigh Alamo Drafthouse. I immediately agreed, and two years later we’re running a film podcast together. We had our first production meeting at the Little Blue Bakehouse in August of ’24 to get started on the pod. We started releasing episodes in November, and just finished 18 episodes for Season 1.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
NO! We had so many technical bumps to overcome as far as finding studio space, equipment, and reliable internet connections. We also had to re-record a few our our early episodes twice, it was so painful. I’ve definitely learned patience and the importance of backup episodes through this process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For the podcast, I specialize in editing, social media management, and booking guests. My background was in Communications (Film), English Literature, and American History. My professional background is diverse, but most recently I’ve made a place for myself in biopharmaceuticals as a technical writer.
In general I’m a very quick learner and I pride myself on being able to communicate effectively exactly what we want and need for the show to run smoothly. I’m also proud of Lindsey and how she went from zero experience to a reliable pro in a few months.
What sets me apart is my time management and attention to detail. I’ve never missed a deadline, our guests always leave feeling good, and I was able to write two manuals on how to edit and upload our podcast beginning to end.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite film podcasts (and the most direct inspiration for Post Film Clarity) are The Big Picture, Script Apart, and Newcomers. These pieces of media all bring a different flavor and are entertaining while enlightening and I learn so much about movies while listening.
