Daily Inspiration: Meet Tracyann D’Oliveira

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracyann D’Oliveira.

Tracyann, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Face Paint Express is a family-owned business, my husband and I solely run it, we also have our 7-year-old daughter’s input from time to time to seek help in regards to what kids her age are into along with our two-year-old son. Growing up, I was always into creating stuff out of paper, if you visit my home all you will see are original paintings and other creations I’ve done over the years.

I’ve always loved working with children, creating and entertaining, but never thought I would have been a face painter. I found my passion for face painting after a community outreach that Encounter Nation was hosting which is my local church here in Raleigh, and I was on schedule for face painting and without any experience, I started painting faces and engaging with the kids while doing it and I must tell you I love every moment of it. After the event, I did not have much thought on the idea until our Pastor approached us, he firmly believes in entrepreneurship and that God is the most creative being in the universe and He created us, so guess what we are all creative in our own way. Lo and behold we were motivated and got right to it. Now I will tell you up until Covid, we were booked almost every weekend and now it’s picking up again. I must say we love what we do which is bringing smiles to every child’s face. I don’t even consider this a job because I love doing it, I’m excited whenever someone wants us to be at their event because I can start creating, I love adding value to every kid’s life and I want them to know no matter what, they matter. Our main goal is to make sure everyone is satisfied before we leave every event. I take time before each event to check myself, my attitude, and even my looks because it matters, we always want what is appealing to kids and let them know it is a safe fun place.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most small businesses, we’ve had our share of uncertainties, especially when you are starting something from the ground up. Each and everyday, we try to improve ourselves and be innovative because ultimately, that is what will get us to the next level which is making ourselves better each day in regards to our services and products we have to offer. Also like most small businesses Covid had greatly impacted us, however it had also help us to improve in ways we would have never thought of. For example, we take great precautions when it comes to preventing contamination of any of our products like we will always have more than enough sanitized brushes, so we don’t ever double dip our paints to ensure all the kids are safe. We make it a priority that our customers are safe, and this has really help our business to pick up again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Like our Pastor always says, “God is the most creative being in the universe and because he is our creator, then that makes us creative geniuses”. So I’d like to say I’m a creative genius, I love creating and I love working with kids. We are proud of our business because our reviews on google says it all. Our main goal is not only to make sure our services and products are good but also our attitude in serving our customers and that is what sets us apart from others.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success as something you were born to do and doing it to the best of your ability.
