Exploring Life & Business with Bethany Burdine of Fuzzy Bee Waxing Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Burdine.

Hi Bethany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was the girl who barely made it through high school. I was told I would never become anything because I was stupid. I’m so glad I didn’t let those lies define my future.

I knew being an esthetician was what I wanted to do with my life. I fell into waxing about two years of being in the beauty industry. Waxing and I were meant to be. I spent nine years working HARD. I worked for the biggest waxing companies in the nation. I worked nights, weekends, holidays and 12 hour days when asked. I learned every skill and trick of the trade. I learned what it took to be successful in this industry, how to manage, how to be a team player. Those years were absolutely priceless.

I came to a crossroads in my career. Something needs to change. I felt deep in my heart and soul it was time for me to do this on my own. So I spent about seven months preparing, planning, negotiating before I made the biggest move of my life.

Sometimes I still stand in the doorway of my studio and think, “I can’t believe I, Bethany Burdine actually did this.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not.

The mind games were the hardest part. The little devil on your shoulder. The constant worry of being able to provide for yourself is a scary feeling. Fighting the constant thought of “did made a mistake by doing this?”or the “what if?” on a daily basis in the beginning is painful.

I had to constantly remind myself that things were going to be ok. That building a business takes time, hard work and failures to make it successful.

Not listening to the wisdom from other businesses owners! I failed so hard on money management for a long time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Waxing, waxing, waxing!

Anything and everything!

I take so much pride in my work. I absolutely love making women feel confident and beautiful.

My brand is a reflection of… well, me! My nickname is Bee or queen bee. I’ve been called that for as long as I can remember. What I love about bees is how hard-working they are. They work on creating their empire and never stop!

I have worked very hard to perfect my waxing technique. I have spend a long time testing and picking a wax that is the most comfortable and effective for my amazing clients. I’m very proud of my little wax room.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
