Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Chelsea Mancuso, PT, DPT, CIDN and Dr. Amanda Brewer, PT, DPT of Evolve Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Chelsea Mancuso, PT, DPT, CIDN Dr. Amanda Brewer, PT, DPT.

Hi Dr. Chelsea Mancuso, PT, DPT, CIDN, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We met while working at a corporate physical therapy office. What we’ve seen in our profession that has gradually increased over the last several years is that corporate PT offices aim to get as many patient visits per day as possible. Larger corporations do this because insurance companies are reimbursing less and less for physical therapy services. This means each physical therapist was treating 2-3 patients per hour, which unfortunately means patients weren’t getting the direct attention from the physical therapist they deserve. As you can imagine, this was exhausting, left us feeling helpless and did not make us excited to go to work each day. We wanted to be excited about going to work and treat people who were motivated and serious about achieving their top physical health. Every day we began going on walks brainstorming on how we could do what we love while helping patients receive the best care possible. Through online research, podcasts, and books, we found many other physical therapists were feeling the same way and doing something about it, so we decided to jump on board. From our daily walks, Evolve Physical Therapy was born and kicked off our clinic in September 2021. Since then, we’ve been connecting with many local networking groups, reaching out to local gyms and studios, and having booths at local events to get our name out in the community.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since starting Evolve Physical Therapy, our biggest challenge has been competing against the big corporate chain clinics. As a small, woman-owned business, we want to educate the community about the higher quality of care they will receive when choosing a local business. Another struggle is that we live in an insurance-driven society. Most patients do not realize they have an option to pay cash for more personalized care. We spend time educating potential patients about how their insurance dictates the care they receive and how a cash-based model will be completely focused on their goals and more efficient in the long run.

As you know, we’re big fans of Evolve Physical Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Evolve Physical Therapy is a performance-based, fee-for-service practice that provides high-quality, individualized care to help our patients become the best version of themselves. Our focus is on enhancing overall performance, recovering from musculoskeletal injuries, improving mobility, and preventative care to limit future injuries. We provide hour-long, one-on-one treatment sessions that are specifically designed for each patient’s unique goals and skill level. Because of our one-on-one sessions, we’re able to be more efficient with your care compared to the standard corporate physical therapy model of 45-minute sessions, 2-3x per week for 6-8 weeks. This allows you to be pain-free in a quicker amount of time and back to your favorite activities!

We are considered out-of-network, which allows us to treat patients without being restricted by insurance company guidelines for physical therapy. This lets you know exactly what your treatment cost is, without surprise bills from your insurance company months after treatment ends. We have found that our patients recover faster, which is more cost-effective compared to high-deductibles and co-pays required through the insurance-based model.

We love surprises, fun facts, and incredible stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Amanda worked as a Christmas elf for 4 years! Chelsea danced in front of 110,000 people while in college!
