Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Alex Pena.

Jose Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My brother was a stockbroker, that’s how I got interested in accounting. I started my own business after being let go from two previous jobs. The instability inspired me to rely on myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road for me. Honestly, the hardest part was me—growing and learning what works and what doesn’t the hard way.

We’ve been impressed with JBA Tax & Accounting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We provide tax preparation for individuals and businesses, amendments, tax planning, and bookkeeping. What sets us apart is the tiny size of JBA. It’s myself, my assistant Jennifer, and occasionally another CPA during tax season. I’m proud of this because it is exactly what sets us apart. Some people need that one-on-one attention especially with small businesses and even complicated individual tax returns.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how nice and welcoming people are and the accessibility to nature and trails. I do wish we saw more human diversity, however.
