Exploring Life & Business with Michael Kincaid of Spring Vibrations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kincaid.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I grew up in Asheville and moved to the triangle area about 4 years ago. I’m an artist, licensed massage therapist, and I’ve been enjoying the triangle area a lot since moving here. The diversity in food, culture and art has been wonderful to experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a trauma survivor, openly genderqueer and neurodivergent person, I’ve faced my share of bigotry. Part of opening my practice and stating all that I am as a person openly, is my small act of defiance. I hope to foster understanding and visibility.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I wanted to do something for a living that would be directly helping others. I landed on massage therapy in 2017 and it has been an amazing journey. I’ve grown a lot as a therapist in those 7 years. Being able to touch tissue and know what is muscle, bone, tendon, scar tissue, or adhesions has been a gradual but wild shift in my perception.
I ended up focusing more on nervous system regulation, relaxation, energy work, and neuromuscular therapy throughout my career. Developing my own style that feels like a slow rhythmic Swedish deep tissue massage.
It’s something special being able to help others heal or truly relax through massage therapy, both from physical and mental fatigue. I’ve enjoyed what I do a lot throughout my career. After working in different practices throughout Greensboro and the triangle area, I decided the only way for me to develop more as a licensed massage therapist is to begin a private practice.
I want to offer a space away from the businesses of day-to-day life. To recharge, energetically and physically. I opened Spring Vibrations in August of 2025 in Chapel Hill to focus more on my style of massage, deep relaxation, nervous system regulation, and overall tension reduction. I offer aroma therapy, hot stones, energy work, and a body butter bar with each service. All of these tools come together to create an experience to help you feel more yourself by the end of the service. I hope to continue to add to that list as I grow my practice. Eventually, I’d like to offer a loose-leaf tea or espresso drink after each service as well. Before becoming a massage therapist I worked as a barista, making espresso drinks, and later developed a passion for loose-leaf tea. I would love the opportunity to combine all of these into a unique experience for my clients. To creating a cozy retreat away from the stresses of everyday life.
Chronic stress can have such a profound effect on our mental and physical well-being. I understand the value of a fully regulated nervous system. The ability to shut down a spiraling feedback loop of dysregulation can make a huge difference. I’ve experienced what a chronically deregulated nervous system feels like, first hand. My massage allows me to focus on co-regulating my client’s nervous systems back into a state of rest and out of fight or flight mode.
I feel deeply grateful to be able to do what I do, and I hope to continue to grow as a licensed massage therapist (17044) through my practice. I’m excited to see what 2026 has in store for me as an entrepreneur.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a massive ttrpg and storytelling nerd. I’ve been a game master of different table top role-playing games for friends of mine for a few years now.
I love storytelling in all the mediums it takes but especially video games, role playing games, movies, and writing.

The logo I had made for Spring Vibrations uses a script I made from a language called Aevelin. It’s the black line work around the different rainbow-colored geometry in my logo.
Aevelin is a passion project of mine, a language designed to only communicate about emotions. It’s mostly just for artistic flair, writing poetry, or used in fictional worlds as a language.
I plan on eventually using Aevelin in the world’s I make for my players in our ttrpgs.
