Exploring Life & Business with Nikole Washington of Pixelated Dreams Web Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikole Washington.

Hi Nikole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first learned to code in middle school, where they taught us to make a webpage. I loved it, but my passion for animals was too strong, so I went the veterinary medicine route. Fast forward to 2019 and I started doing a bunch of things I used to be interested in, but never really pursued – one of those being coding. I was watching youtube videos, reading up on how to code things and practicing in my free time, but I wasn’t thinking of changing careers at that time. I was too comfortable working as a Vet Assistant/Receptionist for the last 10 years that I was afraid to get out of my comfort zone and pursue another dream of being a Web Developer. In 2022, that was the year I decided to take a leap, putting aside my fear of being too old to go back to school at 33 years old and enroll in classes for Web Development. I graduated, continued learning and growing and created my LLC, Pixelated Dreams Web Design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh no, this has not been a smooth road at all. Imposter syndrome is debilitating for sure. Especially when you’re trying to change careers and no one is giving you a chance. Before I created my business, I tried getting hired at tech companies after graduating. With AI on the rise, the economy and so many tech companies laying off thousands of their employees, I thought I’d never get hired. So there I was thinking I took this leap to pursue Web Development and it was a mistake. Then one of my coworkers at the animal hospital I work at mentioned that I should start my own business. Imposter syndrome rearing its head again, had me thinking there’s no way I can be an entrepreneur and start my own business. I barely know what I’m doing! That seed was planted though and it grew until I couldn’t ignore it anymore – Why not do it and take another leap? If I don’t, I’ll always think, what if? Like the saying goes, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. The worst case scenario was that I continue working in vet med, which is my first passion.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pixelated Dreams Web Design?
At Pixelated Dreams Web Design, we take a different approach to web development. Instead of using WordPress and page builders, every website we create is hand-coded from the ground up with clean, custom code. The result? Lightning-fast websites that offer unmatched security, and never need plugin updates. We start building your site for mobile devices first, making sure the code is as lean and optimized. This means your website is optimized to perform better, rank higher, and convert more visitors. We take care of everything for you, so you don’t have to and that means you get to focus more on your business. Having an affinity to animals, creating websites with anything having to do with animals/pets has a special place in my heart. We create websites for any small business – Whether you’re a local dog trainer in Charlotte, a traveling nurse, a lawyer, or a service business anywhere in the US, our custom built websites gives you an instant advantage over other websites using WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, and other CMS platforms.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support by referring others who may need website services done the right way. If you have questions about a website you already have, message me! I’ll be happy to help.
