Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Castellanos.
Hi Ruby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started CATALYSTA to solve a problem I saw up close. Growing up in South Texas, I watched my family and so many others in my community, who had so much grit and passion, struggle to build their businesses. A lot of the time, the information they needed just wasn’t available in Spanish, and they were left to figure out everything on their own.
But as I started helping them and other small business owners, I realized there was a much bigger issue. So many entrepreneurs were drowning in the day-to-day work—the admin, the digital marketing, the endless tasks—with no time left for themselves or their families.
That’s why our mission is twofold: we’re here to be a bridge for the Hispanic business community by providing the bilingual consulting and digital tools they need to succeed, and we’re also here to be a catalyst for freedom for every small business owner, regardless of their background.
Ultimately, my goal is to give our clients more than a great website or a seamless CRM. It’s to give them back their time, so they can focus on what they love and finally take that much-needed vacation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My entrepreneurial journey started with my first business, an audio production company, where I quickly learned the struggle of handling everything myself due to a lack of funds. I was overwhelmed with administrative tasks like taxes and bookkeeping, which consumed all my time and took the joy out of the work I loved. I knew there had to be a better way, so I taught myself everything I could about digital business tools and marketing through free seminars and webinars. These self-taught lessons, combined with a thrifty mindset, allowed me to pivot into a new passion—web design. I handed the audio business to my husband and started from scratch in a new industry. All those hurdles, from teaching myself how to run a business to landing my first major contract, were the catalysts for my mission today.
I founded CATALYSTA to provide the very solutions I once lacked, helping small business teams and solopreneurs get the digital tools they need to save time and focus on their passion. My ultimate goal is to give them back their time, so they can enjoy their lives and not just their work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At CATALYSTA, our mission is to empower small business teams and solopreneurs by providing the digital solutions they need to thrive. We specialize in building custom websites, seamless CRM integrations, and automated systems that handle the busy work behind the scenes.
What truly sets us apart is our dual mission: we’re not just a digital solutions company, we’re a bridge for the Hispanic business community. As a Latina from South Texas, I saw firsthand the struggle to find business resources in a language and cultural context that felt relatable. This experience fuels our work every day, and it’s why we also offer bilingual business startup consulting.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of our name, CATALYSTA, because a catalyst is something that sparks change—and that’s exactly what we aim to be for our clients. We understand the entrepreneurial hustle because we’ve lived it, and our goal is simple: to help you build a more sustainable business and, most importantly, get your time back so you can enjoy your life.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
That’s a great question. On a personal level, a lot of my happiness comes from the simple, quiet moments. It’s in the small things like a warm cup of coffee and a piece of Mexican sweet bread, a tradition that takes me right back to my grandparents’ house. I’m also incredibly lucky to have a wonderfully supportive family, from my energetic stepdaughter to my husband and my circle of friends spread out across the country.
Professionally, my happiness is tied directly to my mission. There’s nothing more fulfilling than sitting down with someone who has a brilliant business idea and helping them turn it into a reality. Guiding them through the steps to get legitimized and seeing their vision start to take shape is a true joy.
I’m also a creative at heart, and I find a deep sense of happiness—what I like to call my “flow state”—when I can zone into a web design project or build an automated workflow. It’s my form of zen. Ultimately, what makes me happy is knowing that I get to use my creative brain every day to build solutions that not only help businesses grow, but also give people more time to spend on the things that make them happy, too.
