Hidden Gems: Meet Andy Harrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Harrell.

Hi Andy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to College to become a hotel General Manager. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minor in Business. I then moved to Raleigh, NC and was an Assistant General Manager at a hotel near RDU airport. For the next ten years, I managed different hotels as an Assistant General Manager and General Manager.

When my wife and I had our first child, I chose to become a stay at home dad. I had so much fun with my daughter and even made sure we always color coordinated when we left the house. Also, when we had my first daughter my wife and I invested in a beach condo that needed some work. I enjoyed spending so much time with my daughter and we had a blast. When my daughter was two,we had our second child (another girl!). Think it is hard with one baby/kid try having two at one time. It was definitely something that I had to practice and get used to. There were some funny moments looking back but at the time they didn’t seem so funny.

When my youngest turned two, she started preschool three times a week. My wife and I started talking about what I was going to do with all that “free” time. I told her I was going to work on my golf game but she didn’t like that answer. So I ended up going and getting my Real Estate license right when COVID hit. I took all my classes at night online and then joined Keller Williams. Things started off slow but I enrolled in the productivity group and had the BEST coach ever. She really helped me put the pieces together and things started to fall in place. I enjoy spending a ton of time with my girls but I also love helping people find the right home in any way I can.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Depends what we are talking about here. If we are talking about Real Estate, it was hard because everyone thought of me as the stay at home dad. Even though I had my Real Estate license and close people overlooked me for either their real estate needs or a referral for someone they knew that had real estate needs. When I got my license, I didn’t jump into lead gen right away. For the first 2-3 months, I took a lot of training classes and tried to learn everything I could. Then I started to call my sphere and I missed out on seven transactions within a couple of weeks. I remember sitting in my office talking to my PC coach and felt like this wasn’t for me. I then started to think don’t give up and turn all this energy into something productive. I made a homemade video and sent it to almost everyone in my phone. Things are going pretty good for me but I have a long way to reach my goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I help to make people’s dream come true by finding them that perfect property. I enjoy working with people and love helping them in any way I can. I go above and beyond for my clients- this may include maintaining a pool or house sitting until they can officially move in so that the house is not vacant or answering calls well after business hours to ensure that my clients feel comfortable with their purchase. My specialty is customer service and that I have never met a stranger. I’m down to earth and the person you have been looking for when you think about real estate.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t give up. Keep trying and put yourself out there. Think outside of the box.
