We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Smooth? No, not at all—but I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything. Every struggle has shaped me into the therapist, woman of faith, and advocate I am today.
One of my earliest challenges was breaking through barriers in a field where I didn’t always see people who looked like me or shared my background. Building credibility, earning trust, and establishing myself required persistence, excellence, and an unwavering belief that my voice and perspective mattered. There were moments of doubt, moments where doors closed, and moments where I had to create my own opportunities instead of waiting for someone to hand them to me.
On a personal level, navigating my own healing while helping others through theirs has been both humbling and demanding. I’ve had to do the deep work—confronting trauma, setting boundaries, and learning that I can’t pour from an empty cup. That taught me that being a healer doesn’t mean you’re exempt from needing healing yourself.
And then there’s the balancing act—being a wife, mother, professional, and woman of God while maintaining my own mental and emotional health. There were seasons where I had to make hard choices about what I could carry and what I needed to release. I’ve learned that saying ‘no’ to some things means saying ‘yes’ to my purpose and my peace.
But here’s what I know: every setback was a setup for something greater. Every struggle taught me empathy, resilience, and the importance of showing up authentically—not perfectly. My clients don’t need a therapist who has it all figured out. They need someone who understands the mess, the pain, and the courage it takes to keep going.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth—but it’s been worth it. And I’m just getting started.”
