
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Laughnan.
Hi Lindsay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working for the previous owner doing pet sitting and dog walking visits. I had a full-time telecommuting job and wanted to care for pets on my lunch break and on weekends.
In 2016, the opportunity presented itself for me to take over as the owner. I was thrilled about the opportunity and worked to structure the company to allow for ease in scheduling for clients, fast responses to client questions, growth opportunities for employees, and enhancing our team culture. We transitioned to online scheduling in 2016 so that clients can request visits easily in their client portal, communicate with their pet sitter or dog walker at their fingertips, and pay online. I expanded our team to add team lead positions, scheduling coordinators, operations supervisors, and HR Admin. This allows for us to provide the best possible service to our clients and a high level of employee satisfaction to our employees.
We’ve been providing pet care service to our Raleigh community since 2004. This year, we’ve expanded to offer our pet sitting and dog walking services in Asheville, North Carolina and plan to expand to other cities. Our overarching brand is Pawz Pet Services and in Raleigh we’re known as Raleigh Pawz and Asheville, Asheville Pawz.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We’re open 7 am to 9 pm 365 days per year. Being available everyday of the year to provide pet care service, I’ve found that hiring part-time employees to be available for a specific shift has worked best to ensure that we can fulfill all requests and other team members can easily help out if someone has a personal emergency. Our top priority is providing the best care possible to our clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
All of our pet sitters and dog walkers are employees, not independent contractors. They have all gone through an interview process, including a criminal background check. We are an insured and bonded company and all employees are covered under our worker’s compensation plan.
We have a multi-step interview process to ensure that it’s a mutual fit. We provide comprehensive training to new employees to ensure that they are set up for success to care for your pets. We are open 365 days per year for pet care services – pet sitting, dog walking, in-home grooming, and errands and concierge services. Every visit, our staff takes photos of your pet and at the end of the visit, we email a real-time visit note with details of the visit and photos.
