Hidden Gems: Meet Nicole Wallace of Transformation Counseling & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Wallace.

Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After serving in the military for four years right out of high school, I decided I wanted to pursue a career which would provide me with the opportunity to serve others. I went to college using my G.I. Bill and earned a B.S. in psychology and a B.A. in elementary education. After many years as an elementary school teacher, I realized I really enjoyed assisting my students with the social emotional challenges in life. I found a mentor and learned more about school counseling. My journey took me from school counseling onto non-profit, agency, and private practice work in psychotherapy. I became a licensed clinical mental health counselor. This year I stepped out on faith and opened my own counseling private practice in the Wakefield area of Raleigh, North Carolina. My focus is working with women who struggle with anxiety and depression. I enjoy assisting women on their journey of self-discovery and self-love.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to opening my own private practice has not been completely smooth. I have five children ranging in age from 9 to 24 years old. I have continually struggled with managing work and home life balance. Trying to make sure I give what is necessary to both areas of my life is often a challenge. However, I know that I am not alone in this struggle. Oftentimes, I am able to relate to the struggles my clients have when we discuss their lives in therapy and I am able to provide real-life solutions.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I provide a welcoming nonjudgmental therapeutic environment within my counseling office. I strive to make each client feel heard and work with my clients to build their toolbox of coping skills and management techniques to handle the struggles life often brings. As a U.S. Army veteran, a former school teacher, a wife, and a mother of 5, I feel I bring a wealth of personal experience to each counseling session. My focus is working with women between the ages of 18 and 65 who struggle with anxiety and depression. I have been trained in trauma-focused treatment and I have worked in non-profit settings with women who have experienced domestic violence. I strive to help my clients transform their thinking and know that they are not alone. My private practice offers group, individual, and family counseling. I am available for consultations and workshops on how to improve communication skills, stress reduction, and parenting skills.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family has supported me throughout my journey to build my own counseling private practice. My husband, Mark, has encouraged me each step of the way.
