Today we’d like to introduce you to Tetiana Volkodav.
Hi Tetiana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Photography has always been my passion since I was a little girl and played with my father’s broken old film camera pretending to be a famous photographer. In my early teens, I used to do photo sessions with my friend on a “point and shoot” film camera. We looked for the locations, choose outfits, and had fun. When I bought my first digital camera, I started to learn Photoshop, I could spend hours working on my “art projects”. I bought my first DSLR camera 11 years ago and shot friends and family. After my divorce in 2014, I started to volunteer as a photographer on many charity events for kids and family, worked with few charity organizations back in Ukraine. After I moved to the US, I continued to do photography as a hobby before 2020 when I finally decided to pursue my dream and opened my business “Light breeze photography”. I love my craft due to a constant need of learning something new. It is very different to have a studio shoot where you control the lighting or outdoor session. I like to think about photography as another option for psychological help. It is not only could help you to preserve your memories, but it could boost your self-confidence, could help you to believe in yourself, to see your beauty, to change your life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a new business is hard, and the photography business is especially challenging – everybody got a camera on their phone. You have to be really good to convince people that you are worth your price, you have to reach out and find potential customers. I had to overcome my fear of talking to unfamiliar people, it is still not comfortable for me to do though.
There are also so many aspects of doing business other than photography itself. Luckily, I have been blessed with amazing support from my husband who is my rock.
As you know, we’re big fans of Light Breeze Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Light Breeze Photography specializes in portraits, including senior portraits, maternity, newborn, family, kids, graduation, and more.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Do not be afraid to pursue your dream. Do not give up when things do not go the way you want.
