Inspiring Conversations with Christy Miller of Triangle Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Miller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2018, I decided to change my health, I was addicted to sugar and wanted to break that addiction. I started the keto diet. In doing so, I had to learn to cook in a manner that avoided high carb ingredients and inflammatory oils. When I didn’t have time to cook, I learned my options for buying foods prepared the way that provided my success in improving my health was very limited. Originally, this was “My Why” for starting Triangle Bakery.

I soon learned there was a demand for my bakery items from more than just the Keto dieting community. My customers came from the diabetic community who needed to keep their desserts low carb. My customers came from allergy community where the gluten, grains and dairy products in traditional products caused allergic reactions in those with sensitives. The mission of Triangle Bakery broaden to not only serve keto dieters but a whole host of dietary limitations.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the fall 2020 Launch Rolesville class which taught me a lot managing a business. I also received a lot of help from Wake Tech’s small business center with business counseling, my bookkeeping process as well as my website design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I started Triangle Bakery as a home-based bakery in December of 2019. Unfortunately, the following year were hit with the COVID pandemic. The major launch was to happen at the Southern Woman’s show in Raleigh which had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, all face to face events were canceled for some time. My products were sold exclusively online for most of 2020.

Also during 2020, I have seen increased cost and delays of the specialized ingredients used in our products due to shortages of raw materials which has made producing my products more challenging at times.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Triangle Bakery specializes in fresh and tasty baked goods while avoiding the use of processed sugar and flour. Our treats are sweetened with all-natural plant-based sweeteners that are low Glycemic Index. Nut, seed and coconut flours are used in place of wheat-based flour. All of our items are Diabetic-friendly, Gluten-Free, and Keto friendly. We have Keto Vegan options as well.

What are your plans for the future?
I am so excited for what we are planning the summer of 2021. We have expanded operations and will be producing our very first retail product that will be available in retail stores, amazon, our website as well as in-person selling. We are planning two additional products to follow this model in 2022.
