Inspiring Conversations with Nicole Johnson of Fanatical Skin & Ink

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Johnson.

Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, my name is Nicole Johnson, and I’m the owner of Fanatical Skin Ink, located in downtown Southern Pines. I opened the spa just three years ago in February. To this day, it has been the most exciting and rewarding experience, and I feel so privileged to be a part of someone’s skin health and beauty care needs.

How did I get into the field of aesthetics?

As the eldest sister of five children and living in a rural community, being resourceful was a MUST. I learned to create beauty out of everything around me and was often told by others that I was a “natural” at making things beautiful.

As I grew older and became interested in skin care, fashion and all things beauty, my friends admired my sense of style and began seeking out advice from me. I began to experiment with brows, using friends and family members and was told that I was a “natural” at making people beautiful.

I realized that my passion and purpose was to make people feel comfortable in their own skin, feel beautiful on the inside and outside, to spread positivity and have FUN while doing so. My passion and purpose led me to a beautiful and rewarding career in aesthetics.

“I believe the two most important days in your life, the day you were born and the day you find out why”

Now how did you become a permanent makeup artist? I believe permanent cosmetics chose me! I have always loved the artistry of cosmetics. I love helping clients to look and feel their best. You might be going through challenging times but you don’t have to look like it.

My journey into permanent cosmetics began after seeing so many of my clients suffering from thin or alopecia brows.

Nicole is an Ohio native and she attended Remington Community college to become a medical assistant in 2004, shortly after she attended esthetic college. Nicole received her training and certification in permanent cosmetics with Antoinette Parfitt Cox, CMI Instructor of The American Academy of Micropigmentation Permatech Makeup Southern California.

Her 17 years of medical experience gained through very prominent artists, plastic surgeons and physicians have given her years of practical experience; equipping her with the very trendy aesthetic growing industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Things have definitely changed since celebrating my first year. Two weeks after our anniversary the pandemic began. I just began renovating to expand my business.

The pandemic impacted the progress of this. I pushed through and grew my business making the best of everything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fanatical Skin & Ink?
I am nominated best in Pines! Three years in a row. I placed 1st in Permanent Makeup 2021!
