Inspiring Conversations with Uduak Affiah of Walker Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Uduak Affiah.

Hi Uduak, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I initially got my real estate license 5 years ago at the suggestion of a friend. With the suggestion, I uprooted and moved to charlotte to further pursue my real estate career. I had no goals or marketing plan on how a get clients. The idea was to wing it and try to look cool while doing it. It was an utter disaster, to say the least. After two years of Zero clients with equated to Zero dollars in real estate transactions, it started to feel as if something wasn’t right lol. I have this epiphany that maybe I should just pause on my real estate goals and formulate a better plan when I decide to press play again. I moved to Durham to stay with my older brother. The ambition to get back into real estate and become successful was still, but it had to feel right to jump back into the wagon. fast forward to 2020. The pandemic hit and I remember watching the news ticker that the interest rate has dropped. Me and my friends were in a group chat and the discussion was, if it’s something that you wanted financially, now is the time. IT FELT RIGHT!!! My new plan was to purchase a house and learn the process and apply it to my business. in the midst of that, I had to update my license by taking CE courses and post-licensing courses. It felt as if the classes I needed worked perfectly with my schedule. The firm I decided to work with, was with a friend of mines. I decided that I was going to take real estate by the horns this time a ride it off to the sunset. Within my first year (that’s what I decided to call it, I’m going choose to neglect my prior time in real estate) I’ve been able to get 2 million under contract and looking forward to taking my career to the next level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a challenging process this time around. Your range of emotions is constant. It begins with I will never get a client. Who is going to want to entrust 200k and higher with men with the purchase of a home, then the joy of your first client? then the feeling of it was a one-time thing. the second one comes along. then you start feeling like you can do this but the client is not consistent enough. then you’re on cruise control. that is an emotional roller coaster lol. I struggle with self-doubt and self-sabotage. you feel is if you’re not good enough. with all these “perceived” great agents out here, why work with me? I had to get out of my own way and tell myself that I myself am a great agent. I also had to tell myself to trust the process. Success is not going to come overnight. I am going to have to put in the work and believe in marketing and my talents.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a real estate firm. We specialize in working with both buyers and sellers.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Empathy, consistency, hard work, customer service, ability to put things in laymen terms for my clients to better understand, active social media presence, ability to not allow failed deals or clients to keep you down, understanding that there will be wins and losses in and not to get too high off the wins or too low off the losses.
