Hi Anissa, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I get the opportunity to go support other women doing support for the community with community events
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anissa perry i am the proud widow of Mark A perry sr. Who was a victim of homicide leaving me and my two children behind.This was the hardest thing i had to go through alone noone knew how to comfort me and there was no community support for this kind of loss. Fast forward years later i was feeling like something was missing in my life. I met a friend who also had a loss 30 years later still no support so i started( VASS) victim Advocate Support Services. This is a 501C3 nonprofit that supports families of homicide free of charge with networking events for the families to come together and extend their circle of support by meeting new friends at the retreats, community outings and so much more.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My first event seeing how the families interacted togeather and really supported each other
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes having to take on the role as head of household After my husband passed.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Im pretty much the same in public or private . I love to talk with others and share their stories of survival.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would love to leave behind the legacy that i loved my community and the families that i serve.
