Life & Work with David Allred of Burlington, NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Allred.

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Raised in Alamance County, I enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school, where I developed discipline and perseverance to accomplish my goals. Following my time in the Marine Corps, I transitioned into the tech industry and joined Microsoft in 1995. Throughout my career, I’ve provided consulting services to some of the world’s biggest companies. Recently, as I considered my future path, I chose to open a lounge with the aim of offering top-quality craft beers, an impressive wine selection, and premium whisky and bourbon, all within an upscale yet relaxed environment. While I continue to work at Microsoft in the Health and Lifesciences sector, my son oversees the lounge’s daily operations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The process has been a learning experience. Despite permitting challenges, we opened for business on September 12, 2024. Since then, raising awareness has remained difficult—many people still discover us daily despite billboards, mailers, and social media campaigns.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My experience at Microsoft taught me valuable lessons that I apply in the business. By sharing this corporate perspective, we enhance our team’s performance and business practices. Our strength comes from employees who excel in research, select quality products, and deliver excellent customer service.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I played football at Eastern Alamance but lacked motivation and direction as a student. I learned about my dyslexia when my son began school. One morning walking to work in New York City in a suit and tie, I was struck by how unexpected it was to find myself there.
