Life & Work with Indyia Ashley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Indyia Ashley.

Hi Indyia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Without giving up all the juice and having family and friends come after me lol I will just say that my life growing up was far from conventional and as I grow more and more life continues to grow even further from orthodox and I’ve learned to love it! I’ve lived in many places and been to many schools, I’ve worked some random and unrelated jobs and traveled to random places I’d spend days sharing specifics… Through it all I’ve learned and witnessed so much; all I do now is sit back in a state of overwhelming gratitude for all that I have taken with me along the way while simultaneously and equally appreciating all I’ve learned to leave behind! Furthermore, my “versatile”, if you will, childhood and adult experiences and encounters have led me to my true purpose which I believe is helping, leading, and protecting the youth! The youth will be the foundation and founders of what we see as the future!

As a woman, I also recognize my duty to adjacently and harmoniously heal with the women and goddesses around me to facilitate the abundant possibilities of the precious offspring we have brought forth to this world. I use my images and platforms to empower others, masculine and feminine, young and old to never give up on life or themselves and as a reminder that there is a loving, welcoming space for you just as you are no matter how long or rough the journey is to finding it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the road I’ve traveled so far has been nothing akin to the word smooth by any means but a few of the highlighted challenges, as I’d like to view them as such rather than struggles, I can briefly name include: being under the supervision of untrustworthy outsiders as a young child that led to multiple forms of undetected abuse on multiple occasions, several traumatic experiences during middle school and high school that resulted in an exhausting battle with depression, triumphing the teenage melodrama, even graduating early and then eventually navigating to a historically black university as a first-generation student with little resources and growing pregnant at the finish line of my very first year that I couldn’t even imagine making it through just that fall. After having my perfect son Mikeal, as you can imagine things didn’t get easier from struggling to keep a roof over his head to finding trusted care, finding new ways to acquire wealth and prosperity for us, and continuously growing with his father as young 20 somethings parents while growing myself as a goddess into the divine feminine figure I was destined to be.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am popularly known for my entrepreneurial efforts, hosting events in nightlife and marketplace environments as well as helping others promote their small businesses. I am in the process of developing childcare centers, I would like those childcare centers to be focused on the psychological health of the parent-child relationship and the holistic health of the child growing from the very smallest seed to the tallest strongest long-lasting independent evergreen. I want to do so through Zen laws and principles of the pan African diaspora. Also, I am working with a group of my peers to develop a nonprofit that will provide education on business practices, talent acquisition, and financial etiquette to help teens and young adults for their success in the business, sports, and entertainment industries.

Most currently, as a model I intentionally choose to promote positive, natural, raw and realistic images that empower those who live free of the standards and “norms” set by society to show the youth and anyone on the path to their goals or having some type of spotlight on them that you do not have to fit into a box to win and that winning as yourself is the best way to win, there’s no way to cut up, cover-up, glaze over, straighten or fix what is authentically designed in you! I have an online Shoetique that I plan to scale to brick and mortars sooner than later. I am also the brand ambassador for a master loctician who I will be partnering with in opening multiple full-service salons in the southern states and the DC to tri-state areas. I hold the position as manager or talent agent to my loctician, Whitney Poole’s child, Kaylin as well; where I facilitate her embarking on opportunities in healthy spaces that promote her raw self. In doing this, I trust that I am showing her that she and many others too can win in that mirrored authentic way! Additionally, I am planning to open several other small but needed businesses in my communities that the young people involved in my nonprofit program and other young people in my life can use to scale themselves to the same, if not superior, levels of ownership, ambassadorship, entrepreneurial and leadership positions that I stand in today!

I pride myself on always being who I say I am, giving myself grace, and giving my past selves as much grace as I give my future and present selves.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?

What matters to me most is being at peace and being in places with people that promote my inner peace and my organic, nurturing, advantageous self. This is a priority because I simply have spent plenty of timing indulging in the opposite. I also am a leader and want to continue to be one of many so I must continue to choose more ascendant, less resistant paths in order to be a true and thorough example to all that may follow!
