Life & Work with Kimberly Brite of Midtown Wilmington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Brite.

Hi Kimberly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I love being a hairstylist! I didn’t always know what career I wanted to pursue, but I’ve always had a strong artistic bent and love doing hands on work. Not knowing how that translated into a career, I acquired a Bachelor of Arts in English, and still enjoy writing poetry and reading quality literature (I’m not even using AI to write this!). I saw the necessity of finding a way to use my creativity in a more practical way, which is how I came to this profession. I’ve now been in the beauty industry for over 20 years and have come to the place of being able to own my own small business. I love being able to use my creativity, not only to make people beautiful, but also to curate a space that is the ideal atmosphere for my clients to come to when I do their services,

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In terms of starting a small business, it has been a road with a few twists and turns, but for the most part smooth, mostly because I paid my dues. My first job out of Cosmetology school was with a well established, reputable salon (in VT) where the owner was able to provide ample educational opportunities, included at no cost to the stylists. This, and the opportunity to learn directly under some of the best talent in the area set me up for success right out of the gate. My career has been with me through every change of location. Once I got settled in Wilmington, knowing I was here for the long haul, I decided the best move for me was to establish a little salon of my own. I did this once I had a solid clientele. My parents always believed in me, and they were my “investors” as I set up my space just a few years ago in 2023.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I take pride in being proficient in many different aspects of the industry. I love doing long, flowy layered cuts, but can also nail a precision bob (thanks Vidal Sassoon). I enjoy creative colors as well as beachy highlights and also have a loyal male clientele. In addition to my work behind the chair in my salon, I work as an independent contractor for a local mobile bridal company and absolutely love doing on location bridal/ bridal party styles. I truly care about each one of my clients- some have been with me for years and life changes. I am privileged to connect with each of them in a “whole person” way, while also making their hair dreams come to life!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Like I mentioned, I’ve had many mentors and educators who have poured into me. Also my parents, who took a chance on me by investing in my business!
