Today we’d like to introduce you to Perianne Louissaint.
Hi Perianne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Perianne Louissaint; yes it is french my dad is from Haiti. I was born in Brooklyn, New York and gradually moved down the East Coast, now here I am in Raleigh, North Carolina. I went into college wanting to become a pediatrician, I took Bio 101 and I was like um, no way! Then I decided to experiment with law, took my first legal class and was thrown in my very first mock trial and was a Prosecutor, and instantly fell in love with advocating for people who couldn’t do it for themselves. I graduated from Methodist University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in legal studies and forensic science. I worked for a few law firms as a legal assistant and then moved up to a paralegal. I studied and took the LSAT a couple of times and didn’t get the score I wanted for the Law Schools that I wanted to attend. I knew that being a paralegal wasn’t the end for me and that I definitely wanted to be a lawyer. So I continued to work under lawyers and made some of them my mentors, and continued the study for the LSAT. As I shadowed under them and watched their every move, I couldn’t see myself in their shoes. I couldn’t see myself working from a desk with LED lights for the rest of my life or always looking up statutes.
Then, I became frustrated because for the first part of my early twenties, I thought I graduated and knew I had found my passion but, I was honestly miserable. I knew the things I wanted in life and that my friend was not it. As I continued through the journey of my early twenties, it started to feel like time was flying by as I was trying to find my passion. Being an event planner was my next experiment. I went as far as creating a business name for it and planning events for a couple of friends and even switched over completely and took a 9-5 doing it. Well, I like it but I can tell you I don’t love it. I thought to myself Peri why are you complaining, you have a great job, great benefits, good enough pay just settle and grow into it. So I did, and within a couple of months, I knew deep down this still was not what I was meant to do with my life. And again now in my mid 20’s I grew frustrated and annoyed with myself that the plan I thought I had all figured out was not coming into fruition.
Finally, on my off days from my 9-5 as I strolled through Target and Home Goods people would randomly ask me “do you think this would go with my living room or do you like this color rug” and we would get into a whole deep conversation about design and my thoughts of what they should do with their home. I have always been creative, and I enjoyed doing it as a hobby but, I never thought it would come to play with my purpose in life, my passion. I then took a few classes at the Interior Design Institute and fell in love every week with the new assignments that I had to do. I took the biggest leap of faith and created an LLC. I knew this was for me because the dreams that I had for my interior design business scared me and I refer back to the quote that “if your dreams don’t scare you then they’re not big enough”.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A great mentor once told me to “trust the process” and I have been trying to live by that ever since in all aspects of life, not just interior design. It is so easy to get imposter syndrome or being so so hard on myself. I had to learn that everyone’s path is different and my time will come; and it is coming!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Namastay Home Decor is a full-service interior design studio specializing in residential homes. We are all about that organic luxury living. When you walk into any room designed by Namastay Home Decor, you will instantly feel at peace. Which brings me to our mission. When designing your home, our goal is to turn that space into a sanctuary. We want it to feel like a place of tranquility or an everlasting oasis. We love to work with texture, earthy tones like browns, greens, and terracotta. You will see a combination of design styles such as Scandinavian, Japanese, and Bohemian. Overall when you come home from the craziness of the world, it should feel like you walked into a different dimension of an eternal luxury oasis.
Any big plans?
I am looking forward to completely leaving my 9-5 and doing interior design full-time with a team. There’s no other feeling then doing something that you love to do every single day. I am also looking forward to starting a signature line of custom furniture and eventually opening a brick & mortar. But most importantly, I am not exactly sure where or how I am going to execute this but, giving back is important to me. I would love to give back to the community in some way. Whether that’s starting some type of fundraiser or scholarship for young entrepreneurs. I am a strong believer of empowered woman empower woman so, the idea will come to me eventually and I will have that AHA moment!
