Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Price.
Hi Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was 14, my mom got remarried. I was asked to help with the flowers for her wedding. I loved it! Soon after, I started working at a local florist after school. My mom had to carry me to and from work because I was too young to drive! I had discovered my talent and my passion. Over my high school and college years, I worked at two other florists. I learned so much at each one. I also realized that I wanted to “be my own boss” and work for myself. I did my first “solo” wedding over four years ago. I was still in college at that time. As soon as I graduated at age 20, my business really started to pick up. The first full year, I had about 4-5 weddings. Last year I designed 56, and this year I’ll do about 70 weddings! My mom helps me, and occasionally my sister and younger cousin help out as well. Sometimes my house looks like a complete disaster from the prep work and bridal party bouquets, but I do most of the designing on site at the wedding venues. My only social media platform is Facebook (Brushed By Bec). My community has rallied around me and recommended me to countless brides. I’ve gotten great support from wedding venues, bridal stores, etc. I am beyond blessed to be living my dream and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I guess it’s been fairly smooth overall. Sometimes it’s really hard juggling my full-time job at a high school with my other “full-time” floral job. Some weekends I have as many as four weddings, so that can be stressful. I’m a very hands-on person, so doing the actual designing is usually no problem. However, keeping up with emails, phone calls, texts, meetings, venue tours, wedding documents, etc. can be a bit much. That’s not to mention the flower orders and supply inventory! I’ve only gotten about 3 “complaints” out of the several hundred weddings/events I’ve done, so I think that’s a pretty good track record. I designed the flowers and decorated for my own wedding and the weddings of my brother and my sister. It’s hard to do all the flowers and be a bridesmaid or a bride yourself! That was a bit of a “struggle”!! I’d say it’s been mostly smooth. I’ve definitely learned a great deal along the way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
About 90 percent of my work is weddings. That’s what I specialize in and what I’m most known for. The brides who contact me usually talk about my bridal bouquets being unique, using lots of varieties of flowers, being trendy, etc. However, I enjoy doing other events and projects, crafts, etc. as well. I make wreaths, do paintings, do Christmas crafts, and have even painted a few murals. I also have a full-schedule Christmas tree decorating business! Last year I decorated about 20 trees for people. I absolutely love decorating trees! Each one is so unique. I am really proud that I started a business from scratch at such a young age and that it has grown beyond my wildest dreams. I think my age really sets me apart from others. I am so young (but still with ten years of experience). My brides are usually around my age and we connect in a special way because of that.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
It’s so hard to choose! My favorite childhood memory would probably be getting a trampoline for Christmas. I have an older brother and a twin sister. The three of us enjoyed jumping on that trampoline so much! It was icy that Christmas, and we still jumped on that icy trampoline! It was so much fun!
