Life & Work with The Food Sheikhers

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Food Sheikhers.

Hello The Food Sheikhers, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
We started our journey in Doha, Qatar where Ajay (aka Foodsheikh) use to work for a hospitality organization, and for his own restaurants, he decided to create an Instagram page. A lot of his content would also be about the food he would eat at home which was made by me – Mika (aka Foodsheikha). At this point, I decided I needed my own page to showcase my food journey too and get some credit for all this amazing food I was able to make! That’s when we became the FOODSHEIKHERS!

We both are Swiss Hotel School graduates and know our hospitality very well. I love cooking up a storm in my kitchen and of course, indulging in different cuisines while Foodsheikh is a creative entrepreneur, excellent food and restaurant consultant.

After running our pages in Qatar for almost five years, we recently moved and rebranded in Toronto as @Foodsheikh_ca and @Foodsheikha_ca.

The journey has been absolutely amazing and we are always growing, learning, eating, and enjoying ourselves.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, it’s never really a smooth road whenever you start something from scratch.

When we initially started our pages, we were really new to the whole experience. Our photography skills were not the best, we didn’t have any connections, we did not know where to start.

Slowly and steadily, we created an amazing network in Qatar of bloggers and marketing professionals who loved our work and we loved being part of their brands and services.

Thereafter, our move to Canada meant we had to start over in terms of creating relevant followership, relatable content, and once again creating a network of bloggers and relationship building with brands who can trust us for our work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, as we mentioned before, we both come from a Hospitality background.

Having studied the ins and outs of running a successful hospitality business, be it a hotel or restaurant has given us a professional understanding of menu engineering, food production, kitchen and restaurant design, and more.

When we showcase our food journeys on our pages, we understand what works for brands, what their USPs are and highlight those aspects to our followers.

We are very creative with our content, especially when working with brands on a specific campaign that is built to create consumer awareness. We also love to add an element of comedy in our videos when possible to make light, fun, and relatable content for our viewers.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We believe we have really evolved through our journey which started more than six years ago.

The credit goes to our teacher who gave us the hospitality knowledge we have today, a lot of other successful bloggers who we look up to and have learned from, and we both give credit to each other as well as we motivate each other to always keep at it.

Additionally, a lot of credit goes out to brands who have supported us and believed in us and our work

Finally, and very importantly a huge amount of credit goes out to our followers who continue to follow, support, engage, encourage and motivate us to keep sharing fun and new content with them.
