Life & Work with Tracy Crockett of Fuquay Varina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Crockett.

Hi Tracy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Over 18 years ago, I started my career in the medical field. I specialized in Pediatrics for a few years, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for a couple more and labor and delivery, where I settled in for 13 years. I quickly realized supporting families through labor, delivery and postpartum was my calling and then felt the pull to do more. I wanted to continue to support, educate and nurture these families after they returned home from the hospital. This sparked my career as a postpartum doula. After working both L&D and as a postpartum doula for many years simultaneously, I decided to end my career in Labor & Delivery to open my own postpartum doula agency. In January 2019, Sweet Dreams Doula was born! When postpartum doula work became my full-time job, I achieved certification as an Infant Feeding Specialist, Child Sleep Institute Night Coach and have an OCN level 6 Accreditation in Holistic Sleep Coaching.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I didn’t really know much about what it would take to open a small women-owned business here in Raleigh, NC but with a little online research and a lot of support and encouragement from my amazing husband, I got it done!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My goal as a Postpartum Doula is to nurture, educate & support the family. I provide non-judgmental, evidence-based information and hands on support. It can be quite overwhelming transitioning to home with a new little one. Whether it is your first, second, third or more, it is always an adjustment to get your bearings as a new family. I help ease families through that delicate time and promote confidence while supporting them physically and emotionally. It is my passion to encourage, educate and assist in strengthening the skills that promote new families to flourish. Twins and Triplets are my specialty.

My Holistic Sleep Coaching program is based around biologically normal infant sleep, responsive feeding, respectful parenting, and evidence-based developmentally appropriate support for families. I prioritize attachment, connection, and responsiveness, as well as age-appropriate and realistic expectations about sleep. I am passionate about an approach to sleep that promotes family-centered care, which means understanding and respecting each family’s unique needs & preferences and partnering with you every step of the way. My aim is to promote calm, confident, connected parenting as well as infant and parental mental health. I co-create plans with families to leave them with a positive, comfortable way forward that restores sleep for the entire family.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I believe the world of postpartum doula support and infant sleep is rapidly booming. There are so many professions that are parent/child/family-centered and the more we all network and get to know each other, the better we can raise these new families up. I love working with other professionals who have a shared passion for nurturing new families. I love being able to provide my clients with a list of trusted local professionals and they are so thankful to get the support they need from a well known source as opposed to a google search.
