Meet Amanda Bolding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Bolding.

Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began So Southern Home on a whim. I have always loved crafting and painting, made gifts and sold the occasional piece, but one day in 2016, as I was struggling to focus on a webex during my day job, I had the idea to make it something more: a real business. I came up with a name and sketched out a logo that same day. At the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to focus on. I dabbled in door hangers, mini photo sessions, health…trying to find what my niche was. I also saw a lot of ebb and flow in the five years since then, as I’ve been through three difficult pregnancies and…of course…2020. So there have been times of stepping back and times of full speed ahead. The great thing is that the business is constantly evolving and has the potential to become more each year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely a bumpy road! In 2016, I was living alone in a small apartment in Raleigh, I’ve since got married, had two kids, and am currently due with baby number three in September! While those are all wonderful things that I wouldn’t trade for anything, the adjustments needed as I became a wife and a mom, the health difficulties I experience during pregnancy have definitely affected my business. I have learned to give myself grace in the difficult times and know that, as the owner and creator, I can make my business work for the circumstances I face at the current time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in custom art, door hangers, and personalized home decor! I am very proud of my designs and feel they add unique, custom style to any home. My focus is helping busy women decorate their home. As a busy mom myself, with a full-time job, soon-to-be three kids under four, and my shop, I know how hard it is to get that cozy, Pinterest-worthy look in our homes. I don’t have time to browse home decor stores on weekends, I’m too busy catching up on laundry! So my desire is to provide cohesive, put together looks and custom designs for a one stop shopping experience – get your door, mantle, and dining room put together for each season with a few clicks!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor or group of like-minded individuals is so important! I have found a couple of online communities of women-owned businesses that help me immensely. Even though, we don’t meet in person often, I know I can go to them for great advice and encouragement. It makes so much difference, especially during rough times!
