Today we’d like to introduce you to Azaria McCloud.
Hi Azaria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started as a child being in love with films. They unlocked my imagination and gave me hope to be able to do the same thing one day. The characters from movies like Forest Gump, Sister Act and Matilda made me feel like I could conquer the world and most importantly that I mattered. That passion has stayed with me throughout my life. I just want to create and tell stories that make people think and give them courage to go after their dreams. My love for fashion came by way of a free subscription attached to a t shirt I bought as a teenager. The subscriptions sent fashion magazines like Elle and Vogue to my door. The garments in the images I saw made me feel empowered and I wanted to dress like the people I saw in the magazines because they always seemed to have so much confidence. Since I began my journey working as a creative i see firsthand the power that these garments possess. Witnessing a model go from a regular girl to being transformed into an empowered woman is so moving. My work for me is all about helping women and men to feel inspired and empowered to go after whatever they want in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the many struggles I have faced as an artist have been constantly doubting myself. I went through an imposter syndrome phase that nearly silenced me but the challenges that I have faced and overcome have reminded me that I am truly an artist. I never gave up on myself. My faith in myself has been renewed by continuing to push myself creatively and never settling for the status quo!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Fashion Photography! I creative direct and shoot editorial projects. I write screenplays for full feature and short films! What sets me apart is for sure my passion for story telling, something I always say is without reason and without why…we have no purpose! Purpose is what sets me apart. I have to have a good reason to do a creative project.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by my ability to wake up and do what I love on a daily basis. I also define success by my effectiveness at serving others. I always ask myself am I leveraging the power I have for the benefit of those around me.
