Hi Deshea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started with a pair of makeup brushes, a deep curiosity, and a desire to create experiences that made people feel seen, elevated, and worthy. I began in the beauty industry as a makeup artist—just me, my kit, and a vision. That small vision evolved when I became a licensed esthetician, opening my first business with zero handouts and little guidance, yet full of grit and relentless belief.
Over the years, I built not just a clientele, but a reputation. I became a trusted name in North Raleigh for luxury skincare and lash services, creating a brand that prioritized excellence, intention, and long-term client retention. But as I grew personally, I realized that beauty was just the gateway. What I truly loved was helping others unlock their purpose and build brands with intention.
That clarity led to the birth of Opulent Luxury Development—a brand strategy firm for service-based pros, creatives, and entrepreneurs who want to build magnetic identities and profitable systems. I took everything I learned as a solo esthetician and developed signature frameworks that now help others position themselves as leaders in their own industries.
Today, I serve as a brand developer, speaker, and digital educator, mentoring beauty professionals and service-based founders ready to stop playing small. I’ve rebranded beautypreneurs into booked-and-blessed business owners, helped therapists and real estate pros articulate their value with confidence, and even transitioned my former beauty brand (Esthetics by Deshea) into a full-scale platform for elevating ambitious creatives.
It’s been far from linear. I’ve pivoted through burnout, rebuilt through clarity, and reinvented myself with every new level. And now, I help others do the same.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not… it’s been everything but smooth. Entrepreneurship has a way of testing every part of you, especially when you’re building something from the ground up without a blueprint. I didn’t come from a background with access to funding, mentorship, or a network of ready-made clients. I had to learn everything through trial, error, and consistency.
In the beginning, one of my biggest challenges was being underestimated. As a young Black woman in the beauty and business space, people often saw me as “just another beauty girl.” I had to prove that I wasn’t just talented I was strategic, innovative, and here to build a brand with depth and longevity.
I also struggled with burnout. There was a season where I was over-delivering to the wrong audience, constantly in motion but not moving forward. I was exhausted, yet still trying to prove my value. That experience taught me the importance of aligned marketing, boundaries, and building systems that support sustainability not just success.
One of my hardest pivots was deciding to step back from hands-on beauty services, even when I was fully booked. It was scary letting go of what was “working,” but I knew I was meant to serve in a bigger capacity to help others brand and grow with the tools I had spent years developing.
There were months of doubt, seasons of silence, and moments where I had to bet on myself when nothing around me looked certain. But those same moments sharpened my clarity, my voice, and my commitment to creating businesses that actually work for people not just wear them out.

That evolution gave birth to EBD: Pro Beauty Academy, where I teach beautypreneurs how to align their media presence, master marketing, and build real businesses behind the chair or beyond it.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is living in alignment personally and professionally. I’m at peace when I’m operating in purpose, helping others see what’s possible for them, and building brands that not only look good but feel like home to the people behind them.
I find real joy in freedom. The freedom to travel, to create, to rest when I need to, and to choose projects that align with my values. After years of hustle and burnout, I’ve learned that my peace is non-negotiable. Creating a life and business that honors that brings me joy in ways hustle culture never could.
I’m also deeply fulfilled when I see my clients win. Watching someone go from doubting their worth to launching confidently, raising their prices, or finally feeling seen in their industry.. that’s everything to me. It reminds me why I do this.
At my core, happiness comes from building legacy and showing other women that you can rewrite your story at any time. You can pivot, evolve, and prosper without losing yourself in the process.
