Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Bro-Rabb.
Hi DJ, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My professional name is DJ Bro-Rabb, “Mr. Lawd, have mercy.” Born & raised in Durham, NC. My DJ career started in 1991 as a freshman at Jordan high school. I started DJing in a hip-hop group with 2 of my classmates! We had quite a few names, lol. We began as “3-d”, “3-funk”, & “crossbreed,” then we did a small change in members, then we called ourselves “the knozes” as the knozes, we had a buzz with the bull city hip hop scene. Also, in high school, I linked up with another DJ school named DJ scholar. He was the more popular & established DJ around the school. I used to ride with to DJ local parties & learn how to rock a party. Once I graduated high school in 1995, I was hired to DJ for a mobile DJ company in Durham called earthquake productions. The owner’s name is Dexter Scott, with earthquake productions. I was able to DJ different types of events that I wasn’t used to & learned how to handle different types of audiences. I also was able to DJ events outside of the Durham area. The radio chapter in my career started at WNCU 90.7fm on the campus of north Carolina central university & WXDU 88.7fm on the campus of duke university. In 1997, I was presented with a few opportunities to DJ on the radio. From radio, I was able to travel to different places across the u.s, attending different radio/mix show conferences, networking with other radio mix shows DJs across the country & meeting representatives from different record labels from all over the country. In 2003, I met “play” from the legendary hip hop duo kid “n” play. He moved to the Raleigh/Durham area & was teaching the hip hop elective class, alongside 9th wonder at North Carolina central university. In 2016, kid “n” play started touring on the I love the 90’s tour alongside salt “n” Pepa, Rob Base, Vanilla Ice, Biz Markie, All 4 One, Coolio & a few others & they hired me to be the tour DJ I’m still touring with them today.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What is that? Smooth road?? No, it hasn’t been smooth all the time. I’ve run into countless roadblocks & issues. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I will say this. If your career hasn’t had any major up’s/donws/highs/lows, you haven’t been rocking long enough! Just my opinion & I’ll leave it at that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
