Meet Helen Bode of DeeTox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen Bode

Hi Helen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey there, I’m Helen Bode. I’m a fully-licensed physician, proud North Carolinian and owner/founder of DeeTox.

My journey started at UNC-Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa. I also earned my medical degree from UNC, with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and a Master of Public Health degree. I was nearly midway through my dermatology residency, when life took an unexpected turn.

My mom (and best friend) suddenly suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and severe subarachnoid hemorrhage in May 2021. I immediately turned my focus and energy primarily to managing my mom’s care, and raising my baby (one at the time, now we have three!) with my husband Paul.

My parents (aka “Dee and Doc”) always encourage me to pursue my dreams and to do what brings me joy, so I decided to launch DeeTox PLLC! We strive to help clients feel beautiful, confident and healthy in their own skin through preventative, science-based methods.

So here I am, combining my love for science and skincare to make a difference in people’s lives. And through it all, I’ve learned that life may be unpredictable, but it’s our response to challenges that truly defines us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It sure has been fun, but not always easy! The biggest challenge has been making decisions about if/when/how to “expand,” meaning add new services/devices and new people to my team. The best part for me has absolutely been finding and working with amazing people!

We are a boutique skin & laser studio based in Burlington, North Carolina focused on science-based solutions and personalized care. At DeeTox, we value transparency and education. Through injectables, lasers, and professional skincare, we’ve created incredible transformations in the Burlington area.

I am most proud of my team and the wonderful people I work with! All of us are born and bred North Carolinians (many from Alamance County!) and we absolutely love serving our hometown community.

Family comes first, and this is something I also like to reiterate to my team. I strive to create and maintain a really positive work-life balance for everyone.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Google calendar! Haha. Work-life balance is always tricky. My husband and I are blessed to have three young children ages 3 months, 2 years, and almost 4 years, but it can become difficult (but oh so fun!) to keep the home running smoothly, business going and most importantly to ensure time to spend time with loved ones. It takes a village!
