Meet Ka’Von Dessus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ka’Von Dessus.

Hi Ka’Von, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in my Dukes (mom) living room with a heat press and ten shirts—maybe two days after founding the name ‘Don Galère’ in my Dukes kitchen. The meaning and understanding behind Don Galère is Upcoming Bosses; The ambition to become successful. But see many people have not yet understood that Don G is not only me, or my family or even my friends— it’s everyone. Everyone who’s persistent and ambitious to become their very own something. I got to where I am right now with my business by giving limitless dedication and sacrificing fun. In year 1, I traveled throughout the entire year across the country meeting new people and putting them on games with Don G. Hosting pop-ups in the city of Clinton (my biggest support & fan base), community cookouts, taking part in community justice activities, and most importantly giving back.

Year 2, I decided to not travel for promotion but to partner with @PerfectlyPromoted on Instagram to challenge myself to become a great marketing guru. This would prove to myself if I really wanted this business to grow because now it’s effort, consistent effort. As well as partaking in movie roles, promotional videos for other brands, and even choosing people for ideas of what they would love to see from Don G. If I could show people little by little that this brand was not created off the idea of incoming money but on the idea of elevating more and more people with stepping out their comfort zone and jump in the water to take the life they’ve always wanted or imagined. & I have to say, many people applaud me for jumping in the water myself because now from our city we have soooo many upcoming bosses!!! Which is the goal!!

This is about the people. I’ve seen so many go lost to the streets, the cemetery, and quit on themselves because they didn’t have that one person, that role model or that mentor.

Many reasons why a lot of talented and hard-working individuals don’t succeed or have longevity is because they don’t have a supporting cast or too greedy to have a supporting cast. See, we want everyone to win, and in due time we’re going to speak upon this topic again and next words I’ll say is everyone is winning— that’s the goal. Don meaning Boss & Galère meaning Group of people sharing the same attributes &/or determination to succeed!

Currently, we are creeping up on year 2 anniversary in December which we celebrate as ‘DONCEMBER’. Going into a new year as a new boss!!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Noooo. It has not been a smooth road by any means! But that doesn’t mean a rough road isn’t the best road. I started Don G right before covid took over the world and I have to say, I was crushed because I thought my timing was perfect in starting. 2020 January-March was so slow with sales, followers, fans that I didn’t think I would really gain traction and support. It was until my birthday weekend in March I went to Miami and had an amazing time, actually gained confidence in myself by bringing my small brand at the time to big Miami. But I definitely know that my confidence played a role in our sales and marketing. Why would people support somebody that wasn’t confident in themselves. So here comes April 2020 and I took a whole different approach— I started pulling up to random places in the cities and when people saw that Don Galère on my shirt and all over my outfits, they started flying in!

I’ve always known my struggle in life was my confidence because of how I was treated growing up. I played sports to build my confidence but when I lost sports, I lost all confidence again. A couple of great people I love pushed me along the way, making me establish base on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. Which I only promoted on Instagram at the time.

There’s been struggles along the way for sure, but that makes it fun that makes the time worth it. You find yourself going harder because if I were to have no struggles who’s to say that this interview would be happening right now, & who’s to say Don Galère apparel would be in Allure Palace (227 McKoy Street Clinton NC 28328).

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a fashion designer NOW, that’s what I was told to label myself. I specialize in creativity—honestly. My mind runs so much, I think of so many amazing things that could be useful to everyday life and even ideas that need to be brought to life. As far as being known, I’m known for sports and my personality. It’s easy for me to interact and connect with people due to me being outgoing and thoughtful. Now more recently, people know me for having a drive to succeed, having connects to make something shake in life and for being ambitious whether it’s for me or for someone else. There’s not one person who would tell you I’m okay with not succeeding and not one person who will tell you I’m uncomfortable with failing. It’s a part of the game, I love the entire game.

I’m most proud of me being able to transition solely from sports to running a business! A clothing business at that! I never sold anything a day in my life, but I always been prepared for these moments.

The attribute that sets me apart from others is my drive, my ambition, my dedication, my decisions making.

I have no problem dedicating half a year to my business only (no parties, no turn-ups, no vacations) only reinventing and giving out to the community. The people know I want the people to win,

to win alone and to win together.

I’ve even lost friends because of sacrificing for my life that I want. Sometimes in life, you have to want it for yourself because others don’t necessarily want it for you.

How do you define success?
I define success as consistency whether you win or lose. Success is only built within failure. Achieving what you desire is success. Success is the achievement of something that you’ve been trying to get, do or reach.

My success is defined as limitless freedom, creative freedom, financial stability, and lifestyle design.
