Hi LaShae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always had a love and passion for fashion. My earliest memory is running around in my Barbie heels at 5. As I grew from a child to a woman that loves never faded.
You could always catch people asking me for fashion advice. Style just came natural to me.
When I graduated high school I knew I wanted to do something in the fashion industry but I didn’t know what.
I started attending a local community college for business and one day while shopping with my mom the store manager overheard me styling my mom and picking up accessories to coordinate her fit.
I was offered a job on the spot at a women’s retail store and it was there I learned I had a love for fashion retail, visual style and merchandising.
Soon I started selling crafts and handmade jewelry as a hobby that later turned into a full thriving business which I now operate as The FaShaenista Files, an online boutique for women sizes S-3X.
Who knew the knowledge I gained as a boutique owner would turn me into a serial entrepreneur teaching women the culture of business and how to build a brand they love.
I now run my online boutique, consult current and aspiring female entrepreneurs, while mentoring, public speaking, and more.
If “Your gift will make room for you” was a person it would be me. Multiplying what God put in my hands allowed me to become a full time entrepreneur at the age of 23, almost 24. Here I am 4 years later still thriving and full of passion and bliss for what I do.
When you find what you love and pursue it you’ll live a life of purpose and no regret.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey for sure hasn’t been all peaches and cream but I found beauty in every lesson. Chasing your dreams is more about the journey than it is the arrival. It’s the journey that cultivates you and makes you unbreakable. It’s how you build character. When I became a full time entrepreneur it was tricky. I didn’t have a mentor, a backup plan, or money saved. All I had was faith. I sacrificed a lot of family time, outings with friends, and even things I loved to do for myself for the dream I believed in. I lost some things along the way but nothing that I couldn’t get or didn’t recover. You can lose everything you own but if you still have God you have everything you need.
We’ve been impressed with The FaShaenista Files, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets my business apart from most is the fact that my business isn’t built on dollars. It’s built on principle because it’s multidimensional. I’ve styled women and poured and uplifted them in the same moment. It’s much deeper than clothes and accessories but allowing every woman to know she has purpose and is beautiful in her own unique way.
The FaShaenista Files mission statement is “Together in faith and fashion, together fashionably fierce”. It’s about faith, style, community, empowerment, and the freedom to express personality through apparel and feel good while doing so.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My boldness and fearlessness. I have no fear because I truly believe in my heart there’s nothing I can’t bounce back from. I have grit and tenacity. As a visionary you have to be firm in what you believe even if there is initially no evidence. You have to learn nothing is impossible when you mix faith, consistency, and a willingness to show up.
