Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick & Harley Moon.
Hi Nick & Harley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are an urban farm run by a couple (and a baby) who love being able to live off of their land! In 2018, we made the decision to pack up our things and move from New Jersey to North Carolina to pursue our dreams of starting our very own homestead. We started Julie Ann’s Farm so that we can provide the highest of quality goods for ourselves, our family and our friends. We offer homegrown produce & microgreens, farm-raised poultry & eggs and homemade bone broth. Organic, non-GMO, pesticide-free, soy-free & pasture raised. With just a half-acre of land to farm, we make sure to utilize every little space we can. We are happy to offer local drops and porch pick to our customers in Raleigh! We also attend Apex Farmers Market every Saturday and are at Northgate Park in Durham every Sunday.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been an interesting journey! There were some learning curves with moving from New Jersey to North Carolina, trying to figure out the warmer climate. There was a lot of research and trial & error happening during our first growing season. All the while, we were both working full-time jobs! Shortly after we started our business COVID came about. We used quarantine to expand our garden, master the craft of market gardening, and grow our homestead. While it has been a bumpy road, we are so grateful for the community we have created that allows us to pursue our dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are market gardeners who specialize in seasonal greens and microgreens. We strive to offer greens year round. We also raise our own Cornish Cross birds so that we can provide our customers with pasture-raised poultry. While at the farmer’s market, we are definitely known for our beautiful eggs! We have a variety of hens that lay green, blue, white and brown eggs which makes for a very colorful assortment. We started our farm with the goal of being able to live off of our land, and we are so happy we are able to do so. It is so rewarding knowing where your food came from. We also love that all of our products are non-gmo, all organic, soy-free and pasture raised. Good food for good people!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We are so thankful for our loyal customers who come back week after week to support our small business.
