Hi Shawndria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my real estate journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, I had never seriously considered a career in real estate—until a friend, who was already in the business, introduced me to it as a potential additional stream of income. Since the classes were offered online, it felt like the perfect opportunity to explore something new. I gave it some thought, took the leap, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Real estate quickly became more than just a side hustle. I discovered a real passion for helping individuals and families achieve their dream of homeownership—especially those who never thought it was possible. I’ve made the process simple, fun, and empowering for my clients. Whether it’s guiding first-time buyers into their forever homes or helping sellers walk away with maximized profits and increased equity, I take pride in delivering real results with care and excellence.

I also believe in educating my clients every step of the way. I teach them that real estate isn’t just about buying and selling property—it’s a powerful way to build generational wealth and create a legacy that lasts. For me, it’s not just business. It’s purpose. It’s impact. And I’m so grateful to be a part of that journey for so many.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My personal experience in real estate has been mostly smooth, with only a few minor challenges along the way—challenges that I’ve been able to overcome quickly. One memorable situation occurred the night before a scheduled closing. My seller was all set to finalize the sale the next day, but late that evening, the buyer’s lender—who was providing an FHA loan—made last-minute demands that had to be addressed before the loan could be approved.

As the seller’s agent, I immediately connected with the buyer’s agent, and together we tackled the issue head-on, working well into the night to resolve it. Although we had to push closing back by one day to the following week, our teamwork paid off. The buyer’s loan was approved the very next day, and everyone made it to the closing table feeling relieved and happy.

My client was able to close on her new home, and all parties walked away satisfied. It was a reminder that even when unexpected hiccups arise, collaboration, communication, and dedication can get the deal done smoothly.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe risk-taking is necessary for growth. The biggest wins often come from moments when you step outside your comfort zone and bet on yourself—even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. To me, risk isn’t about being reckless; it’s about being willing to move forward with faith, strategy, and courage, even when the path isn’t crystal clear.

One major risk I took was jumping into real estate during the pandemic – a time when the world felt uncertain. I had an established legal career, and honestly, real estate wasn’t even on my radar. But when the world slowed down and classes went virtual, I saw an opportunity to add another layer to my purpose and income. I didn’t know if it would work out. I didn’t know if I’d love it. But I said yes anyway—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Another risk I’ve taken is betting on my own brand. I’m building something that reflects who I truly am—Your Real Estate Bestie—a brand rooted in authenticity, advocacy, and connection. This means leading with heart and a style that doesn’t always follow the traditional script. But I stay true to who I am, and that’s what attracts the right clients—people who want a smart, savvy professional who’s also real, relatable, and fully invested in their success. It’s bold to step out with a brand that’s not cookie-cutter or overly polished, but I’ve learned that being real is the most powerful strategy I can have.

Every risk I’ve taken has taught me something, whether it was a lesson or a blessing. The reward for taking those risks? Impact. Fulfillment. Legacy. And the freedom to design a life and business that truly aligns with my purpose. As I grow, I continue to take intentional risks because I know that staying stagnant is never an option for me.
