Rising Stars: Meet Joe Bunn of Raleigh NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Bunn

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a DJ since I was a teenager. I bought out the local DJ in town when I was just a kid growing up in Wilson, NC. I did it all through high school, college, and even when I moved to Wilmington, NC. Eventually I moved here to Raleigh about 25 years ago and realized that this was going to be my career for life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been a ton of struggles. There always will be for entrepreneurs. Sometimes you have great years, sometimes not. Plus, you have to wear many different hats. You have to wrangle talent (and egos), manage money, be a content creator and marketer and so much more.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The first company I started that did well was Bunn DJ Company. We book private event DJs. I grew that to having six offices in five states. I still go out and play about 1 show a week myself. However, over the past decade or so, I spend a lot of time helping other DJs grow their businesses via an online membership platform called The DJ’s Vault. I’m super proud of that business.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always been a music lover. I really coudn’t sing and was a terrible drummer, but DJing was such a natural fit for me.
