Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly McCoy.
Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a local event planner that use to order different items from so many different vendors for my events. It became a little overwhelming running around, all while still providing my services. Then my grandkids came along and that was it. I had to figure out something to be able to provide my grandkids with the best experience of me. So I started Glam Shop Sweets & Customs in 2017 to be a part of Parties All About Me Events & Planning. At first, the treats were just for my events. Not even one month in the orders started coming in left and right for not only my events, other people events and just because we love your dessert orders. Not only am I event planner, I’ve been a salon owner/hairstylist for over 25 years. Let’s just say I’m a full-time treat maker/event planner and MeMa. Family means everything to me and a family business is what we do. My husband, my mother, as well as my kids all make it happen and we love it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were definitely struggles. Worrying if I was doing the right thing by stepping back from the salon that has been my main source of income, knowing if the orders were going to remain consistent in order to pay the bills for my location, all while juggling being a wife, mother and full-time grandparent because I keep my grandkids. We started with one granddaughter, now we have a total of 3 grandkids and my husband and I help my daughter 100% due to her being a single parent so it definitely becomes a lot. There are many nights I’m up until 4 or 5 in the morning but I’m extremely thankful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an event planner and treat designer. I love crafts so being able to do this as a profession is truly a dream come true all while being with my family. Family is so important to me. I’m also a salon owner/stylist so being self-employed has always been my thing. The thing that I’m most proud of is just remaining someone that people go too. Returning customers and being referred to others are all things a self-employed person loves. And to be able to do this with my family is even more enjoyable. Now my son has his own custom shoe business and my oldest granddaughter wants her own business one day. So that makes me extremely proud to be an example to them all. And my husband oh my. He’s my backbone. He’s always saying “ok Kim if that’s what you want to do I’m in’. Never discouraging me or saying now is not a good time for that. Even when things get hard, he’s like we can do this. That’s everything.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to working with others. We do classes for kids as well as adults and we do events for all occasions. One day I would love to have a set up where I can give hands on classes with all of the necessities of ovens and all of the utensils needed to do baking and treat classes as well as mentoring on event designing.
