Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzi Green.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2016, I enrolled in a private art school, Living Arts College, to pursue my Bachelor’s in Interactive Media Design. About a year into college I read Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles and after reading it felt called to start my own design studio to pursue freelancing. Prior to this point in time, I had always presumed I would graduate and go work for a design agency as an employee.
I quickly began my journey into the world of entrepreneurship. My father gifted me a website as a birthday present and from there on any time I wasn’t inside class, I was in my dorm working away at improving my website, furthering my education about business, and striving to obtain design clients.
I got my first couple of clients in early 2018 and officially registered my business later that year. Shortly after diving into entrepreneurship, I learned about branding and the impact it had on business success. I then decided to specialize in brand identity and custom website design to support other entrepreneurs on their journey to success. By the time 2019 had rolled around, I was full on entrepreneur and frankly was ready to be done with school as all my mind could focus on was business.
In the summer of 2019, I graduated as valedictorian of my class and was a fully self-employed entrepreneur. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working with over a hundred business owners and have continued to grow Kenzi Green Design.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think entrepreneurship is ever smooth, the journey to success isn’t a one way road as it has all kinds of ups & downs and twists & turns.
My first year in business, I barely made a sustainable income and my first three months out of college, I was struggling to get consistent clients but never gave up. I kept pushing through the tough times and I think that’s what makes entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs. We don’t give up even when things get tough.
My second year in business, I rebranded myself, tripled my income, and started working with absolute dream clients. This past year I hired a junior designer to assist me during my busy season and it’s been nothing but uphill since then!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kenzi Green Design helps passionate entrepreneurs build the business of their dreams through strategic branding & custom website design that converts.
A lot of people associate branding with logo design but it’s far more than that. Branding is your values, messaging, purpose, and visual identity combined. I work with my clients to solidify their message through strategic visual identity and branded website design. I not only provide my clients a logo but an entire visual identity brand guide that allows them to show up online cohesively, appear professional, stand out, and consistently attract their dream customers thus growing their business.
I pride myself in having an extremely versatile design skillset. I’ve worked with feminine wedding photography businesses all the way to masculine landscaping companies. Being a good brand designer is about knowing how to conform to your client’s needs even if it falls outside of your typical design style.
I’m different from others in my industry because I not only have a versatile style but know how to form lifelong relationships with my clients to continuously support them on their business journey and fully showcase my personality in a professional manner while doing so. I think being able to connect with my clients on a level beyond business is important because building a brand is a collaborative effort and we must be able to communicate efficiently. I strive to work with people who have the same values as me and are just as passionate about what they do as I am about design.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my clients succeed, seeing them step out of the 9-5 job they’ve hated for years, and watching them achieve their dreams they once thought weren’t possible.
This makes me happy because it’s ultimately why I do what I do. I believe every single person on earth should be able to make a living doing what they’re passionate about and I utilize my branding and web design services as a stepping stone to help my clients get to that point.
