Rising Stars: Meet Madalyn Yates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madalyn Yates.

Hi Madalyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a young adult, I was always the friend bringing her point and shoot camera to every sleepover or school dance which led me to photographing my friend’s senior photos and then family photos for each holiday! When I was a senior in high school, it was time to start thinking about college and luckily, there was a photography program right in my neighborhood so I graduated high school and then went right onto get my associate’s degree in Photographic Technology! From there, I moved to North Carolina and started my photography business.

I started off by pursuing wedding photography and choosing to serve couples from North Carolina to Florida and everywhere in between but at the end of 2019, I started to feel a tug in my heart that it was time to hang up the wedding photographer title and shift to branding photography. Branding Photography has opened up a new creative side of my brand and it allows me to serve other small businesses and encourage them to chase & pursue their dreams regardless of the highs & lows.

To me, branding photography allows you to bring life & personality into your brand so that you can connect with your ideal clients on a personal level to establish a like, know, trust relationship before they even invest in your services and/ or products! Each small business brand is so special & unique and branding photography allows you to showcase who you are & why you do what you do!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any big career change, I think there is going to be a struggle. But, with the right perspective and having faith in all you do, that is what makes it less of a struggle and more of a growth in your own self & brand.

Going from wedding photography to branding photography comes with changes, sure but they are changes that are making me stronger and really allowing me to find what my passion is. Financial changes, schedule changes, ideal client changes are just to name few.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a brand photographer, I specialize in listening to what it is that small businesses what to share with their audience. By listening, I am able to create photographs that allow them to connect with their current & future clients. I’ve been told I am like their own personal cheerleader. Aside from providing photographs that are full of life & joy, I love to encourage my people. When they are in the midst of a launch, I want them to know I will like, share, and support their small & huge victories!

I am proud of how I’ve pivoted in such a strange time! Living in a pandemic is hard, but owning a small business in the middle of a pandemic is something unique, & not in an easy way! I kept reminding myself that,

Even though it seems like things are falling apart, I am not. I have a business that I love & that others love to see flourish. I can serve my people with a positive attitude and encouraging atmosphere!

How do you think about luck?
Luck has allowed me to meet the right people at the right time. There are moments when I get inspired out of the blue and that is luck.
