Rising Stars: Meet Princess Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Houston.

Hi Princess, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I like to call myself an HR professional by day and a Wellness Coach by night!

I discovered my passion for Human Resources when I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Talent Management. I also minored in Sociology because I find people so interesting.

Although I started my professional career in auto insurance straight out of college, I soon started my path within HR in 2018. I have gained so much knowledge within the last 4 years.

Started out in an HR Generalist role, then transitioned to a more specialized part of HR; Leave of Absence, and now as a Human Resources Business Partner covering the north East region of the US for an international Pharmaceutical company.

I recently passed the Professional in Human Resources exam through HRCI and am now a certified HR professional… Princess Houston, PHR. I’ve been an athlete since a very young age; from elementary field days to cheerleading and track from middle school through high school.

Went to college and the freshman 20 hit! We all know how that goes. Lol, College lifestyle, depression, relationships, and navigating life can make us lose sight of our health. In 2017, I decided to make a lifestyle change with Herbalife Nutrition. I lost over 25lbs by changing my eating habits, working out, and taking my daily vitamins/supplements.

I felt and looked amazing and I have not looked back since! In 2018, I decided to help others in taking control of their health and making a lifestyle change by becoming a Wellness Coach through Herbalife Nutrition which btw is the number one nutrition company in the world!

I have thoroughly enjoyed working on myself from the inside out through personal and spiritual development and encompassing a healthy lifestyle. Herbalife is an overall nutrition company and I’ve learned so many fresh ways to take care of my body.

Skincare (because it’s nothing like fresh glowing skin right?), Safe energy (because daily life can be exhausting), digestive health (you notice a huge difference when your gut is healthy, weight loss, and immune support (it’s so important to take care of our systems before getting sick) just to name a few.

I try to maintain a weekly goal of being active for at least 30 mins 3-4 times a week. You’d be amazed at what this can do for your body and your mind.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’re human so nothing is ever easy sailing. I’m a firm believer that mindset is everything.

In 2017, when I made the decision to change my lifestyle, I was in a very broken place inside and out. I definitely didn’t like what I saw in the mirror so I decided to make a change. Everything starts with a simple decision. You have to decide and then START!

Even with a new body/image and much healthier mental, life still happened.

I’ve experienced the death of loved ones, financial struggles, sickness, and career burnout… that all can cause you to stray away. But even when I fell off, because of the new healthy habits and structure I had created, it’s never too difficult to fall back into a routine.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to make people feel good about themselves and focus on overall health, not just physical. So much of our mental health affects our physical and we sometimes lose sight of that.

I engage my customers and clients through social media. Bringing people into my life as a black woman in corporate, making my daily shakes and teas, taking my vitamins, my fashion, and fitness. I show people the journey and how real it is. I’m known for going to exciting workout classes.

I like to try new things and shock my body. You can find me on IG posting sauna workouts at Hotworx downtown Raleigh, Aqua Zumba with z-fitness with Jacque Allen, Hip-Hop Step and Yard Bootcamp class at Club Cardio, on a run/walk on a city of Raleigh trail, or just at a neighborhood gym.

It blows my mind when people notice when I don’t post my workouts, daily inspiration, etc.

It’s such a rewarding feeling when people tell me that I inspire them whether it be on a professional, personal, or fitness level.

I pray that I inspire people to simply START and make their journey their own. We can talk ourselves out of things because of what we feel we aren’t capable of but it pays to love what you have because that’s all you really need.

Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to growing as an HR Professional.

Human resources are such a broad and rewarding field. As I continue to gain experience, I plan to transition into training and development. It’s amazing what organizations can accomplish when their employees feel appreciated and are properly trained.

I am looking forward to growing my business through Herbalife Nutrition. I want to gain new business partners, not only in the US but also in the over 90 countries that Herbalife operates in.
