Rising Stars: Meet Santa Bartholomew of Reidsville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Santa Bartholomew.

Hi Santa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a pediatric critical care physician with 39 years of experience. When I retired from academic medicine in 2020 my husband and I opened a Pediatric Forensic Review company. We review medical records for attorneys, assist health systems in assessing risk for children in their ED’s and in their facilities, review child abuse cases, assist with legal case management, help families with all manner of issues after the loss of a child.

We employ local folks to run our office and have several healthcare providers that assist us in reviewing cases who work remotely. There is not sufficient business attention for JUST children so this has become a niche business for us that is booming and allows me eah and everyday to touch the lives of parents who are suffering with their child as I did when I was working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been smooth and straight. We launched a website in 2020 and it was clear there were precious few pediatricians and pediatric specialists available to help in this manner. With my connections and friednships through almost 40 years of pratice we are almost always able to find someone to help.

My biggest challenge is getting all the work done in a timely fashion

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a pediatric intensivist. I have spent 4 decades care for critically ill and injured children all over the world. I hold 17 unencumbered US licenses. In the last 10 years I have also done pediatric hospitalist work caring for newborn infants in level 1 and 2 nurseries and children who have less severe disease son the pediatric floor. such as RSV bronchiolitis, pneumonia, broken bones and the like.

I beleive that I come into a families life during one of their most stressful times, when thier child is ill or injured. My goal is to always be kind, empathetic and make that worts day of thier life just a little better, a little less stressful. That is my legacy in each family I have touched over a life time told in Christmas cards, invitations to graduations and weddings.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Summer dinners at the beach with family. My dad would come home from work, my mom would have the station wagon packed and we would all go picnic at the beach and watch sunset.
