Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Maggard.
Hi Ty, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In December 2019, I walked away from all the employee jobs I worked. I’ve loved automotive detailing since I was 7 years old, and I would watch my dad detail our family cars. I was presented with an awesome offer to rent a bay out of a local mechanic shop. I had a minor contract with a used car lot for filler work and my small clientele from my house, who I brought with me. I was quickly overwhelmed with the amount of work I needed to do. This was the first time in my life I admitted I needed help. I reached out to a former co-worker of mine Clayton Ewing and asked for his assistance. He was employed in the dental field. He also had a small detail business where his brother Nate Ewing also was detailing. I explained to him the scenario I had, and he decided to join forces after some thought.
A few months into our journey, the three of us created Royalty Auto Spa NC. Our mission was to provide the best customer experience for getting your car detailed, paint corrected, and ceramic coated. Very quickly, we outgrew the mechanic bay. After leaving the mechanic shop, we met our landlord and one of our mentors who had a building he was going to renovate and rent. From April to September, the entire building was gutted and torn apart for us. Thankfully our good friend Enrique let us stay in his shop for that period to master our craft even more before our shop opened.
September 28th, we moved into our current shop. Within the first 90 days, we outgrew that building. Today, we have clients who travel from all over the east coast to get their vehicles serviced. This journey has been incredible, not accessible by any means. With my business partners Clayton and Nate, and our team Jordan and Joey, we wouldn’t be anywhere close to where we are today. The people are responsible for our success. We owe it to our family, friends, and clients for trusting us to protect their investments for years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
Honestly, the biggest struggle has been learning the business and growing up all at the same time. I was freshly 21 when this started, Clay was 24, and Nate was 19. Managing work-life balance for all of us has been challenging, but we’ve made it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Everyone knows us for some of the amazing transformations we’ve pulled off on cars. We specialize in paint correction and ceramic coatings at Royalty Auto Spa NC. While we love distinctive detailing and bringing vehicles back to a new car finish, there’s something about the deep gloss of polishing a car that gets us—genuinely changing the level of perfection to a vehicle.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Invest in yourself for anyone starting in this industry or even business in general. Put your passion over the amount of money coming in. You have nothing without drive and discipline. One thing I wish I knew when I first started was how strong your network is. Your network will make or break you.
