An Inspired Chat with Heavenly Mcfadden

Heavenly Mcfadden shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Heavenly, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, I had the opportunity to do a lash demonstration at Alamance Community College in Burlington, North Carolina. It was such an honor to share my knowledge and experience with up-and-coming beauty professionals. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do, being able to give back, inspire, and help shape the future of the beauty industry.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Heavenly McFadden, and I am the owner of Beyond Bliss Beauty Spa in Greensboro, North Carolina. What began as Bliss Lashes, a small lash and brow studio, has now evolved into a luxury beauty brand with a bigger vision.

Beyond Bliss is more than beauty services; it’s about creating an experience! Everything is designed to ensure each Angel feels valued, relaxed, and radiant when they arrive and when they leave.

In addition to running the spa, I am passionate about mentorship through my program, The Beauty Biz Blueprint, where I teach aspiring professionals how to build strong brands, attract their ideal clientele, and create sustainable success.

While my brand, Beyond Bliss Beauty Spa, has a mission to reduce stress and build confidence within its clients, my personal mission as a beauty professional expands past the doors of my salon. It’s about uplifting my community, giving back and creating opportunities for other beauty professionals to grow with in this industry. Though volunteer work, mentorships and eventually scholarships, Beyond Bliss Beauty Spa will be a stable in beauty industry growth.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I’ve never not felt powerful. That might sound bold, but it’s simply true. Even as a child I could feel the way my words moved people. I was the one teachers and managers picked to speak for the group, often promoted or given leadership roles early on because I showed up confident and capable.

Becoming an entrepreneur and building a career where I set my schedule and make money on my terms didn’t feel like a gamble it felt like the natural next step.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me resilience in a way that success never could. Growing up watching my family struggle, experiencing homelessness in adulthood, and realizing my lifestyle wasn’t conducive to my future forced me to develop strength and determination that I may not have discovered otherwise. Those moments gave me the motivation to keep showing up for myself, even when life felt impossible. Success feels great, but suffering taught me to never give up and to always find a way.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie the beauty industry tells itself is that entrepreneurship is for everyone, and that working for someone else is somehow “less than.” Social media has pushed a false narrative that every beauty professional should own their own brand, set their own schedule, and avoid corporate or chain settings. But the truth is, working in a salon chain or corporation can provide tremendous value if you treat it as an opportunity.

In those environments you gain real skills, from product knowledge and customer service to client retention and professional discipline. If it weren’t for my start at Great Clips, my business today would not be nearly as strong or successful.

The reality is, entrepreneurship requires more than talent, it demands marketing, consistency, and the ability to show up for yourself in ways not everyone is prepared for. And that’s okay.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes. Building Beyond Bliss, mentoring other beauty pros, and creating calm, confident experiences for my clients feels like the work I was born to do. This is where my purpose, skills, and joy meet.
